R56 S Exhaust onto a Cooper

Hi guys...

I have recently decided to try and fit the S Exhaust onto my Cooper. I have studied the floor plans and they are exactly the same and the bolt positions are already in place on the Cooper. I'm trying to find out though if the Exhaust mod will be possible with it being from the Turbo S, should there be any side affects or will it be fairly straight forward. :)

I think yr cooper will lost some back pressure becuase the pipe size is too large for normal aspriate engine...

Lost the power in initial rpm for sure, but in the high rpm I the yr can will gain some power...

i have a stock exhaust if you need it =] not for free tho =]

I think I have solved this problem, I got a local welder to make me a new end and welded it onto the Stock S exhaust, the bore size on the S is 55mm and the Cooper is 48mm, so this should solve the problem of the lost pressure.

As another mod I wasnt keen on the standard S Tips so I have had new size ends made by the same welder and these now fit the R56 Stage 1 JCW Exhaust Tips  Will post pics soon

Well the modifications to get this done are truley under way so I thought I'd get the progress pictures up :)
First thing we found out is that the bore on the R56 S is 55mm and the bore on the Cooper is 48mm, this ment that we needed to make the S exhaust 48> mm, this was done by welding a new end piece onto the exhaust to make it fit the standard Cooper bore:

The next mod I decided to so was to make the Stage 1 R56 JCW Exhaust Tips fit the standard exhaust, unfortunatly the bore size on the tip ends was again 55mm and the JCW Exhaust tips where designed to fit 50mm, we decided to again cut a section of the end of the exhaust off and weld a new 50mm bore so this would allow the JCW Tips to fit

I also was able to source the bumper trim from a MINI2er and have the S Exhaust Brackets currently on order, hopefully will have everything fitted on Tuesday, will update with more pics then :)

I have a stock r56 S exhaust if anyone wants it..
It's not doing me any good lying around here, not really looking to make a profit off of it, just shake the dust off ... if anyone wants it ?
PM me if you're interested :)

Nice work.:thumbsup:Now how you gonna get that MCS bumper trim on a MC.

Oxybluecoop 10-08-2008 03:14 PM

The few I have seen ended up cutting the trim to fit the tips and filling the factory cutout.

samroberto 10-08-2008 06:26 PM

or could you maybe get a stock cooper S rear valence ??

Oxybluecoop 10-08-2008 06:49 PM

The MC and MCS rear valance(trim) are cut different. The easiest way to go would be a bumper swap.

Oxybluecoop 10-08-2008 06:57 PM

If the OP has the JCW aero kit then yes it would be a simple swap of the rear valance.

samroberto 10-09-2008 04:20 PM

that's what i meant, rear bumper.

clayvt 10-09-2008 07:06 PM

Any new news as to fittment/performance?

clayvt 10-09-2008 07:10 PM

Would a standard S rear bumper just "snap" into place on a nonS? like perhaps this one?

Hi guys, apologies for the late replys on this thread, been busy enjoying my new exhaust, to answer the question about the rear trim, thankfully the Aero Bumpers are exactly the same on the S & Cooper, I managed to source someone who fitted the carbon diffuser and was thus about to purchase the trim from them painted Chilli Red aswell which was fantastic

Now onto the exhaust fitment following on from my earlier post, Over all the process was very simply, apart from having to get a few new extensions welded onto the standard S exhaust it was extremely straight forward.
Thankfully the holes where already in place on the standard Cooper so this solved the initial problem of how to fit the exhaust :)

Having spoke with a few of the techs at the local MINI Garage they advised me that the heatshield was not necessary to refit, so we stripped the cars old heatshield and trimmed it where the new exhaust would change direction :)
Next job to be done was cut the old exhaust off, and fit the new one in place, thankfully as above the holes for the brackets where already in place so we fitted the brackets, fitted the new trim to the bumper and attatched the exhaust using a 48mm clamp

An extremely worth while mod, i think it finishes off the back of the car extremely nicely, if any one need any help doing this themselves I'll be glad to answer any questions :)
