New 1990 Mini Owner in Atlanta
Hi,
We just purchased and imported from Japan a 1990 Mini Mayfair. It has the 998 engine and is a cream white color. Overall the car seems to be in pretty good shape with just a little bit of surface corrosion showing in the drip rails. I picked up the car from Amagasaki Motors in Japan via a contact in Jalopnik's backend forum Opposite Lock.
The car has a little over 13000 miles on it and seems to run pretty well. The carb needs to be adjusted or swapped out. It has a Japanese Webber clone that seems like it is a bit large for the car. So far we have replaced the CV boots, the exhaust, driver's ball joints and bushings in the steering. It is not a show car, but it is solid, runs and has a nice interior. We are pretty happy with it.
We also have a 2005 Cooper S that we have had since new and that is my DD.

Congrats can't wait to see it around town.
I would just redo the carb too. Right now I have a single 1 3/4 inch carb on mine and it runs better than it ever did on twin carbs.

hi..why do you want to swap the carb as you can purchase a overhaul kit or you could just try and adjust the mixture, to do this under the carb are 2 brass nuts turn the bottom in all the way then turn it out 3 full turns this is the starting point then turn in for rich and out for lean

I have a 91 Mayfair, and it has the 3 binnacle gauge cluster. Yours has a center mount, and that makes me think it may be older then 1990? I could be wrong, I'm just curious if that may have been a model year change I missed out on, as I like the look of the center mount even more.
I also own an 05 MCS since new.
