Windshield replacement in the area?
Windshield replacement in the area?
Has anybody around here found a good place to replace the windshield? I have a fairly large crack in mine and i need a replacement. I have read around here that PPG is a good company, but i dont know much more than that. I have an 04 MCS, and i have the rain sensor as well.
Thanks
Thanks
I had my windshield replaced in August 2003 with PPG glass. It has held up fine so far (I do have one chip from this year which I have not done anything about yet). I do not have the rain sensor.
It was replaced free under my State Farm insurance, so I don't know how much it cost (I think they have changed this policy since that time).
The place that did it was Glass America, and they came out to my work and fixed it during lunch time. It took about 30 minutes.
They did break a few plastic clips when removing the old windshield, but there have been no leaks or wind noise or problems in the past 4 years.. Next time I will buy a few clips from the dealer beforehand and get them fixed (there appeared to be 2 different sizes)

Had mine replaced at Patrick MINI. The glass guy who did it was Awesome!!! ---Works for Reflections Auto Glass??--I think?? -- Replaced all the clips that were necessary to hold the mouldings in. He works with the guys down the street at the body shop so he is usually always near.
I had my windshield replaced by Allstar Autoglass in early September. They have a number of facilities around Chicago and a fleet of mobil service vehicles. They came to my house and did the work in my garage.
The glass is aftermarket and seems to be holding up very well. The technicians that did the work were very professional and I will call them again if the need arises.
You do need to take precautions regarding the A-pillar covers (The black plastic trim pieces on each side of the windscreen). The glass guys pried them off becuase they didn't know that the cover is also held in place by 3 or 4 screws. One cover blew off approximately a week later. The other is still in place. From what I've read, the covers are intended for one time use only and must be replaced when the glass is replaced.
