07/25/10 - Speed TV covers 1st MINI Grand Am win

If you are looking for an escape from the triple-digit bake this weekend, Sunday, July 25, at Noon Speed TV will broadcast the Garden State 250, which took place last Saturday at the New Jersey Motorsports Park, Millville, NJ. The # 198 RSR Motorsports MINI Cooper S, driven by Randy Smalley & Owen Trinkler, had the first win EVER for a MINI in Grand Am racing.

I've been following this series on TV for a few years, and it is especially exciting considering the season of bad luck RSR has had so far (the team races 3 MINI Cooper Ss) having cars running well but with mechanical and electronic failures keeping them out of top finishes.

Previously, the best finish for a MINI was third. The team rebuilt a badly-burned car from an earlier race this season at their new RSR Motorsports shop in Florida, and the race was the first for the new Mini. #198 also had the fastest lap time in the Street Tuner class, and its margin of victory was 16.071 seconds over a BMW 328i.
