Cars & Cycles Against Cancer - Mini's 50th

Thinking about bringing the family to this one on June 6-7, 2009:

Do the AMOKs typically go over the Friday before, or wait and caravan over on Saturday, the first day of the event? Will we all be lining up at some point for a police escort to the car show?

As far as hotel rooms, anyone know if the Comfort Inn is all booked up yet? Any other thoughts on decent hotels for family with small kids in Blytheville or nearby?

The AMOKs are planning on leaving Saturday morning, time yet to be determined. I will be able to contact someone connected with the British Car Show and they will send a police escort to the Blytheville exit to escort us to the park, where the show is. I am not sure if the Comfort Inn is booked or not. If it is, I do know that there will be car show activities at the Holiday Inn, so you might try there. I hope we can get a big group to go up there.

We (Mid-South MINIacs) did the show last year. We drove up on Sat morning with the River City Bimmers. The police met us at the gas station just off the Blytheville exit.

Are you guys staying for any of the after-show festivities? We didn't last year, but since they are focusing on us MINIs, I guess some of us may stick around.

Some of us are spending the night and will go to some of the later activities. It is about a 3 hour drive from LR. We are scheduled to leave at 8:00 am on Saturday to make the drive up. I don't have any idea how many cars will be coming from the Little Rock area, as yet. Hope it is more than just me.

Everyone come join us for the drive and car show in Blytheville this weekend. It is going to be perfect weather. There is a fish fry at the mayor's house Saturday night. All he asks is that you bring some lawn chairs. He says there are over 100 people coming to his house. This car show is a charity event to benefit cancer. There is no admission charge to get into Walker Park for the car show, but if you are going to enter your car in the show, there is a $20.00 fee. Last year, there were over 500 vehicles entered in the show. Hope you will join us. RSVP soon, please, to aprilrain51@sbcglobal.net

Just an FYI - the location of the show has been moved to the Areoplex. Apparently the park has had too much rain. It looks like their website has finally been updated with the new location.

We have about 14 cars coming from Memphis. We are heading out around 7:30 am and should get to Blytheville between 8:30 and 9:00 (unless we have any stragglers like last year).

Are you getting an escort to the show?

Memories... spent 3 years of my life at the Air Force Base there in Blytheville. I believe the old hangers from the base are now used for the Aeroplex. The base closed down in the early 1990s.

Enjoy ! And take your mosquito spray !

We are not requesting an escort because there are only 3 cars coming from the AMOKS. I was hoping for alot more so that we could get an escort into town. That would be fun , but with only 3 cars, I don't think so. Thanks for telling me about the change to the Aeroplex. I hate that it is not in the park, though. There are lots of trees there. We drove up a few weeks ago to look around. Enjoy your police escort and we will see you around 11:00 at the MINI tent.
