AMVIV 4 Strip Run "MINI Bashing Comment of the Night"

This was my first AMVIV with a MINI and I was anticipating a few comments from people...mainly college frat guys...and they delivered this evening:

COMMENT 1: Drunk college frat guy steps away from his drunk college frat guy pack and approaches my car. He asks "What's the worst part about driving a MINI Cooper?" I humor him and say "What's that?" His answer: "Going home to tell your dad that you're gay." First, my wife was sitting next to me and second, everyone following him just shook their head at the comment and proceeded to cheer on the MINI's. The guy REALLY made himself look stupid.

COMMENT 2: Slowly driving by I hear a comment "EVERYONE has a MINI!" The guys friend (again, college age) says "Yeah...MINI D*CKS!!"

COMMENT 3: Actually this was kind of an observation. We have 3 lanes of MINI's going with an occasional non-MINI thrown in the mix. The MINI's are honking and this guy in the passenger seat of an SUV is just losing his mind. "GOD THIS IS SO F***ING ANNOYING! WHY DON'T YOU ALL JUST SHUT THE F*** UP?!?!?" He's flailing his arms. Everytime he drives by I honk my horn just to get a rise out of him. He throws his arms out in a motion that's like "You wanna fight??" Poor guy! He was a sad case.

The run was awesome...all the people taking pics or videotaping, all the thumbs up, all the cheering, etc. They definitely outweighed the morons. These nay-sayers didn't bring down the atmosphere by any means, but it's amazing how stupid people can be and how they make themself look like such an idiot. It's really entertaining actually!

Great run...AMVIV has been awesome so far.

OK, well look at it this way. I was honking with all of the other MINI's (per many of the onlookers request) when this high-strung dude just HAPPENS to be rolling by! It was just coincidence.

Honking is classic. Nothing like a toot of the horn. And with the 2 buttons at each thumb, you can rapid fire hit that horn for quick short bursts that are really attention getters

Ahh but you wrote: Everytime he drives by I honk my horn just to get a rise out of him.

My only point is that YOU provoked him. His response may have been equally immature

But for you own safety, your causing Road Rage. Just read in the Road Rage thread about the woman in Detroit who is in jail for shooting out someones tires because she was tired to people tailgaiting her. You never know whos packing a gun ... push the wrong button ... and bang U dead.

Just be safe because life is too short to worry about the small sheeeet.

Looks like some MINIs actually received damage from a BB gun during the strip cruise!?!?!?

We interviewed Agro and he gave us the astonishing report:

I just listened to tonight's chat and heard that a local Vegas clubmember's MINI was damaged by bb-gunshots. Also damaged, according to the chat, was Jenna , the beautiful custom-painted pink MCS belonging to our Tori (thefuturequeenofnebraska)!

Apparently some folks were unhappy with the basketball playoff results, had too much to drink and were misbehaving on the strip, shooting at the HUGE parade of MINIs.

I agree...and honestly in Vegas, you really DO have ot watch out for crap like that. The BB gun incident is a great example. You never know what a person is capable of. On the other hand, I would THINK that people kind of need to chill out a bit. Tons of MINI's are on the Strip honking their horns and having a good time and 90% of the spectators are cheering and provoking more horn honking.

OH, I forgot to add another comment I heard:

Drunk college kid: "Hey, it's a MINI Cooper....hang on, I gotta take a pi$$." And then he motioned toward his pants like he was unbottoning them.

CLASSY!!

I would have thought a parade down the strip would be cool I've been to Vegas many, many times and do not recall ever seeing a rowdy crowd shooting at cars be cause the Vegas cops are usually always on the ball with those yellow shirt bicycle patrols. That is pathetic.

Its one thing to make verbal insults about a car. Its another to SHOOT at it.

Yeah, Chows, on the chatshow from AMVIV last night, they mentioned Tori's MINI. Of course, I want to hear in her own words what happened.

The ugly side of sports is what poor losers and poor winners fans are...

I'm not trying to bash the run by any means. It was extremely well-organized (as organized as it can be to take over the Strip), but you have to look at the crowd that Vegas is. It's an "adult playground." But a good number of the people on the Strip are HARDLY adults. Not everyone can be like a MINI owner...well, MOST MINI owners. I like to think that our community is one with great personality.

Saw Tori's car today...broke my heart to see such a flaw on a beautiful car. She seemed obviously upset...for good reason, but I felt so bad for her. It pierced the paint and left a tiny dent. Fixable, but extremely frustrating nonetheless. So sorry Tori , but if you read this I enjoyed meeting you.

Some jerks...

...always show up at any event. For once an SUV driver was not invinceable. Tori handled it really well, something like "that's life" kinda comment.

I think everyone was bored with us at the end of the line, or the cops found the drunken idiots.

I was up toward the front of the line and all that I heard was someone on the radio asking us to stop honking, because LVPD had asked us nicely to stop, the anouncemet was to be passed on to anyone around you without a radio, but the honking continued.,

The Strip run was way fun but at the same time some of the most stressful motoring I've ever done. I stayed next to the center median away from the sidewalk so I didn't hear any neanderthals and their little comments, nor could I hear my radio over the non-stop honking, I was even getting a little annoyed by it.

I would bet 300+ SUV's and jacked up trucks rolling down the strip would get a very different reception than we got, even though some knuckledragger decided to inflict damage on a couple minis. (hoping for speedy recovery)

By the way does anybody know exactly how many of us rolled down the strip?

Hi folks, I just got home. It was my MINI that got it's side window shot out. The pellet point of impact was three inches behind my head and I can't help but think what might have happened if the car in front of me didn't move forward and I stepped on my gas pedal just before my window shattered. My window was opened and it happened just after I heard some guys in a pickup on the other side of the street yelling some obscenities at us.

Someone up there is watching over me because my wife and daughter was up on Sahara taking pictures of the MINIs making the turn. I can't imagine the other thing that might have happened if my daughter was sitting in the back seat.

The good folks at the Sin City MINI Club have organized a first class event and I had a great time meeting up with all of you. But right now my nerves are a bit shattered. I'm tired after the drive home and I must say, I saw the very best and the very worst of the American people. This vacation has been an adventure.

Hope to see you all again some other time.

something i would like everyone to understand is that 99% of the people on the strip are tourists. the people who live here rarely go there. for some reason people come here and think it's their duty to get drunk and wild for the weekend. this town has a reputation that anything goes. please don't hold their actions against those of us who live here. it was the locals who put this whole gathering together and you saw how nice and friendly we all are. thanks.

Crazy.

All the way from BC and to have this happen I am glad that your ok. 99% of americans love the MINI and don't resort to this. Heck when people are that drunk they don't even care if they shot at a cop or anything else . We might have to bring the cop car from Pittsburgh here to take care of the crazys. Again those who where shot at, this is a rare case, and i hope your MINI's are ok. Since we are very particluar about thing I know how you feel, heck i had someone hit my brand new MINI with debree and take off in my front yard the day after christmas .

Hope everyone made it home ok.
