Questions about 2006 alarm kit in Canada
Questions about 2006 alarm kit in Canada
Been calling around the dealerships about the 2006 alarm kit. Seems not one of the dealerships in Toronto (Woodbridge, Markham, Downtown) have any experience installing one. From what i've read on US forums (NAM) the alarm comes in 3 pieces:
(i) siren,
(ii) ultrasonic module and
(iii) wiper stalk
The siren and the USM are universal to all mini but the wiper stalk will depend on the car you have.
Anyone in Canada have this done? Does the wiper stalk go on the left or the right side of the steering column? if on the right like i've read what happens to the fluid level indicator (yellow stalk light)??
Like i said the dealerships are of no help, none of them have one in stock and would have to order it from germany (???? i thought minis were built in england).
Also if anyone else is interested, they are charging
$450 for the alarm kit
$250 for the wiper stalk
and $550 for the installation
Customers in the US are paying half of that. Anyone know if the US kit is the same as the Canadain kit?
Thanks.

Yes, the the kit comes in three pieces ('05-'06).
In US you get:
1 siren/tilt sensor (all in one unit bolts in by ABS/DSC unit)
2. movement sensor (ultrasonic?), that snaps into the little box centered at rear of headliner.
3. Light/indicator stalk. If you have the orange wiper fluid level light on the right-hand wiper stalk, you need the left hand stalk that operates lights/indicators (variations depend on if you have OBC, auto headlights, etc...)
NOTE: alarm will work without changing light/indicator stalk (after it has been coded in by the dealer), and the lights/indicator stalk DOES NOT come with the alarm retrofit kit, you have to buy it as a separate item.
I got the Alarm for about $120 and the light/indicator stalk for $70 I think it was at Morristown MINI in NJ. It took me about 3 minutes to put the movement sensor in; 15 minutes to put the siren/tilt sensor in (5 minutes of which were getting the pre-wired plug unwrapped) and about 20 minutes to put the light/indicator stalk in (went real careful on that 'cause I didn't want to break anything).
You have to get it coded at the dealer for the BCU to recognize it, but the blinking red light will work immediately, even before coding.
Hope this helps

MIB was built in 2005 production week 45 it is a 206 model. I had the folks add the alarm at the dealership. I think all of the alarms are installed at the dealer btw.
They swaped out the turn signal stalk to put the alarm stalk in. The yellow wiper stalk is on the right side of the steering wheel. Very comforting to see the alarm light flash when I park MIB to go to work.

My experience was similar to usaaus.
You'd be better off paying the duties and ordering from the US.
Install is exceedingly simple for all but the stalk, and that is very simple - just three screws and you're good.
