UPDATED:
We will dress our MINIS as either doggies or kitties complete with tails, noses, & whiskers. I will either be making all the costumes or my wish is that we can all get together one Saturday & work on them from the templates I have created. We want our costumes to all be uniform (other than color variations) so that we will look like a professional group & make both the Friends of Cats & Dogs Foundation & bamamini proud

We will have nice big door decals wishing everyone a Happy Do Dah Day. We will also have side quaterpanel decals with our club name (bamamini.com) on it. We will have large, top windshield decals saying either WOOF WOOF or MEOW MEOW.

The parade is Saturday, May 19th. If you have a pet bring em with you, they can ride shotgun .

Participants will need to meet Friday May 18th for a decal application party
at Andrew's hous starting at 3:30PM & going til you can get there. Andrew's address has been emailed to everyone (or we will have to make arrangements for those who cannot come Fri so they can have their decals placed correctly on their MINIS). I do not know the exact start time for the parade Saturday but all the details will be coming shortly. We will be paying for our MINI costumes (including ears, tails, & noses with whiskers) & a few other decals. Keep in mind that the money you spend is a charitable contribution taxwise. I estimate your out of pocket cost will run around $60-$65 per MINI. I will have the cost finalized in the next few days.

I need help in the form of a sewing machine (either you sew it or lend me your machine). I just sewed, by hand, one of the roof felts & it took me 2.5 hours to sew what a machine could have done in 2 minutes so if you can help out with a sewing machine please PM me

OK now, who wants to participate

I need fast & firm commitments so we can get the ball rolling!!

I will update the thread as I get more info.

Yucca & I met tonight. He got the first peek at the almost finished doggie ears & gave a thumbs up. Yucca is going to work on the kitty ear template.

The Friends of Dogs & Cats Foundation is very excited about us representing them in the parade

PurplePeopleEater and myself will be working on prototype kitty ears. Terasa gave me some great photos showing how Atlanta MINI's did a similar thing and I should be able to make these with a few nights of experimentation.

I've been working all afternoon on the upright kitty ears. I've strengthened the design of the Atlanta MINI's Christmas mice using sslightly stouter wood which is actually cheaper than the thin lattice type stuff.

Here is a photo of the first prototype ear. I may work with the shape somewhat. . .

I also purchased black and white striped leopard print fake fur and pink velvet to cover these with.

I spent about $60 today for enough materials to make 2 sets of ears, so count on the ears costing about $30 per car for the kitty design.

Teresa is working on the floppy dog ear design as I type.

Kitty ear is looking good Andrew. Here is a pic of the nose & whiskers The whiskers show up much better in person (sorry for the big image but the whiskers didn't show up at all in the pic if I shrunk it)

The whiskers are awesome!

I think I need to angle the kitty ears outward so that they are not so vertical. And I'm not quite happy with the shape but I will work on it.

The basic frame design though is really good, so I just need to figure out the right shape of the ears.

OK I finished the tail. But it's too dark to get a pic so I will post it tomorrow.

Great idea SB, everyone can reuse part of their costume after the parade so they won't get wheel rash

Sienna, are you here in B'ham. If you would like to participate in the parade we would love for you to
& a big Welcome Sienna to NAM & the AMS boards!!

Ooops! I guess maybe I should have given a bit more info about myself.
Yes, I am in Birmingham... Pelham to be exact! I have 2006 Solar Red Mini with a silver roof that I love very much. My Bearded Collie, Ozzy, and I would like to participate in the parade! Just tell me what I need to do...

Well Sienna I am in Pelham too. I drive a Chili Red cabrio w/lots of checkerboard on it. I will have to keep an eye out for you Shorn, another NAMer, also lives in Pelham & drives both a Liquid Yellow MCS & a metallic burgundy classic Mini.

Once we get the costumes finalized we will post pics of them & you get decide if you want to be a kitty or doggie. At some point we will all have to meet so Yucca & I can collect some moolah & continue finishing the costumes. Keep checking back for more details

I am dying to see that solar red and silver. You've got one of the rarest color combos ever. Our Purple Haze and Silver Cooper is another odd and rare color combo and we would have ordered Solar Red except that it was going to take an extra month or two to get our Cooper.

You all rock on, I am so dang upset that I ant gonna be there.
But I know you all will represent us well.

I got one doggie ear finished
Thanks to Yucca who came up with a good mounting idea for cabrios

If you wanna be a doggie & have a tintop, the ears will look very similar but they will attach to a piece of roof colored felt that will run across your roof.

This is so exciting to see it all coming together. I've been drawing prototype ears on graph paper and will soon have a much better design.

Glad my idea was useful for the cabrio ears. My hair-brained ideas can be hit or miss!

Here is a photo of the fur I am using for kitty ears along with pink felt not shown.

Those pics are adorable! Y'all are going to be the hit of the parade. If you happen to be selling the pattern(s) when you're finished, or have some spare parts you wouldn't mind sending to San Diego - I participate in a couple of parades each year and these "critters" would be a hoot! I'd be more than happy to pay for all materials, shipping, "royalties" on the pattern(s), and a small thank-you fee

Probable (but not yet final) Door Decals:

Plus we will have a decal on each rear quarterpanel that says bamamini.com
& we will have decals across the tops of our windshields that say either WOOF WOOF or MEOW MEOW depending on your costume

Do Da Day

As it looks rIght now, I will be able to come to the Parade. I have never participated with you guys, but have been wanting to get together. I read all your posts and I will make a similar dog costume for my Yellow MCS. I have two teenage girls and a Yorkie who will be with me. Please let me know where you will be meeting on Friday night so we can get together. We will be coming down to Bham and will spend the night. I have only been to DoDa Day one time and can't wait to come with my girls.

I have seen the pictures on the previous posts which show the costumes. I will make a costume "similar" to those. I like the furry ears!
