2ND Covered Bridge Cruise and Anniversary Meetup
2ND Covered Bridge Cruise and Anniversary Meetup
Since the first meetup up last year in November, the number of MINI owners in Alabama has increased to about 100 (those I know about and have email addresses for). Therefore, we are going to make another tour of three Covered Bridges in Blount County and if we are lucky the color of the autumn leaves should make this years ride even more enjoyable. These bridges are historical and will not be around forever so don't miss your chance to drive through these wonderful bridges. PUT THIS DAY & DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6.
Following is a general schedule of the day's events:
Meet at 9:30 am (place undetermined)
Leave for Covered Bridges 10:00 am sharp
Visit the Horton Covered Bridge
Go to Palisade Park for lunch, snack, bathroom break, photo op, etc. (bring your own lunch).
Visit the Easley and Swann Covered Bridges
We will return to a predetermined location between 2 pm and 3 pm for pizza and conversation. Hopefully those who are unable to make the ride around to the covered bridges will be able to come and share some pizza and comraderie.
Last year we had 7 vintage Minis and 22 new MINIs. There is no reason this year cannot or should not be bigger and better. Only you can make it happen so make your plans now. We may even be able to get another police escort out of town if we ask nicely and hold our mouths right. More info to follow later, so keep up with your email and MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!
Also, Jerry, Auburn is not playing that weekend so you have no excuse. Roll Tide. Harold

My wife, Babs, and I devised and ran a modified cruise route yesterday, and I think this may be a more scenic and more relaxed cruise than last year.
Since this is the anniversary meeting of BAMA, we thought it appropriate to begin the cruise at the spot where BAMA first met - the parking lot in front of the Target on US Hwy 11 in Trussville. We will be meeting at 9:30 on the "lower" portion of the lot closest to the highway then leave on the cruise at 10 o'clock sharp.
The cruise will tour one covered bridge, then we will stop for a picnic lunch (BYOL) at Palisade Park, tour two more bridges, then return along a modified cruise route for a relaxed gathering and early dinner. While this will be a "follow the leader" cruise and we will be in touch via FRS radios, turn by turn directions will be supplied at the start of the cruise so that, in the rare event you get seperated from the herd, you can still catch up. Also, there are NO INTERSTATE stretches in this year's cruise; should make it more scenic and relaxed for everyone.
We will also be playing a "Poker Run" during the cruise. Participation is voluntary, and each hand will cost $5; buy as many hands as you like or can afford! You will be dealt one card at each stop and at the beginning and end of the cruise. The winning hand wins the entire pot!
If I can find the time in the next two weeks, I will try to put together an "I Spy Scavenger Hunt" to play along the cruise route. Whoever is the most observant and finds the most scavenger "items" along the way, wins! We may even be able to get a prize for the winner.
Please make plans now to join us for some MINI motoring fun, and quality time with your family and friends. It will be a great way to spend a crisp, cool fall Saturday. After all, when was the last time you took your family on a picnic?

See if I have this right, I will be coming from Huntsville, I take I-65 south till I just get to the outside of B'ham then take I-59,20 exit, branch off onto I-59 till I come to the exit for Hwy 11 or does it turn into I-459 south then exit hwy 11 at the end on the exit turn left onto Hwy 11 about a mile up the road should be on the left.
If anybody would like to follow me down I will be at the shell station on Wall-triana hwy, it is in front of the cracker barrel. We can meet up at 7:00am and leave at 7:30am.

Is that target close to that Mazda dealer there on hwy 11? If so I know where you are talking about. I can also help anyone that wants to follow me down from cullman.
If you are leaving from hville at 7:30am you should be coming by my exit on I65 at around 8:15am to 8:30am so I will just join the group as you go by. Ask golfman, I'm good at catching the group on the move!! My exit is 299 so Just look for me on the south bound on ramp.
