I don't use Race Trac because I get bad gas mileage when I do. I normally use Shell because I get the best gas mileage from their premium gas (I get 2 more MPG believe it or not). A Jet Pep opened on my route home from work so I am going to try them for a few tanks & see how my MPG is. If it drops I am going back to Shell.
One good thing about Jet Pep, it is locally owned (Holly Pond, AL) & the gas is refined locally too in Cullman. I know the owner from my bartending days. He is a really cool guy. You would never know he is a millionaire from the way he acts. I guess you could say he is a blue jeans millionaire

There is no reason you cannot mix gasolines to get a desired octane.
a 50:50 mix of 89 and 93 will give you 91 octane. Run your tank almost empty and put 6 gallons of each in.
Whether it is worth the effort to save 75 cents a tank is up to you.
My new Jeep gets 25% worse gas mileage, but it takes 87 and the cost per mile is almost the same. . . .

Right now using Jet Pep over Shell saves me around $4.25 a tank so that's significant enough for me especially since I don't have to stray from my normal route home to get it but it will take me a few tanks to see how my gas mileage is effected (if at all) by the Jet Pep gas
Yeah Andrew is spending around the same on gas for the jeep but ask him about his new driving style. I believe the term "granny" was used somewhere in the description

I have not used half a tank yet. I only drive 20 miles round trip to work so it may take me a bit to go through a few tanks So far it's hanging in at around 24MPG which is what the Shell was getting but yucca made a good point in that I prolly need to give it a few tanks because if Shell gas additives were benefiting me in some way it will take a few tanks for them to be completely gone. I will keep you posted

First tank I got 23MPG per my OBC (no point in calculating it by hand because the Shell MPG reading was also from my OBC so apples to apples). Shell was averaging 23.5 MPG. I still need to do a few more tanks for final judgment BUT... The Jet Pep prices have already started to rise & were at $4.01/GAL on my second fill-up. That's still lower than the around-town average though but not by as much as it was on tank #1. I will let you know how tank 2 does

Thanx to Stephen's Garage...
...my Mini is new and improved!
I have amazing news!
Yesterday I had my CVT transmission fluid changed for the first time and the miles are just over 30,000. I notice the second I drove away from the shop that the excelleration and gear changing was 100% improved. So today I tested my gas milage on a short trip out of town.
A few days ago I was getting 27.3 MPG on our run to Little River Canyon. My car was badly needing a CVT transmission fluid changed. That was my worst milage since I've had the car.
I would normally go to Huntsville and back on 1/2 tank. Today I made it on 1/4 tank, and got 32.6 MPG according to my OBC (on board computer)
I have a witness too my husband went with me~
I am so in love with my Mini! Even more so now : D
One more thing I love about this car...and I know y'all do too...
You only change transmission fluid every 30,000 miles and oil change every 15,000 miles (not 3,000)
What an awesome little machine
Just had to share ~

OK my experiment is finally over & I learned something a bit surprising...
If you saw a Jet Pep selling premium gas (92 octane) for $4.09/GAL beside a Shell selling premium (93 octane) for $4.25/GAL it's awfully tempting to pull into the Jet Pep for a fill-up but guess what??? I now know that the Jet Pep gas is actually slightly more expensive than the Shell
I ran 3 tanks of Jet Pep in the MINI & averaged 21.5 MPG. With Shell I average 23.5 MPG. That doesn't sound like much difference but when I did the math the Jet Pep gas costs 19¢ per mile while the Shell costs 18¢ per mile. (I used 12.5 gallons of gas as my benchmark)
I always felt feel better about putting Shell gasoline in the MINI but I feel even better now knowing that it is actually cheaper. So don't let those pump prices fool you. Experiment over. It's Shell for me from now on

I use Shell gasoline and purchase it with a Shell Mastercard that gives me a 5% rebate each month on my gasoline purchases. So with the math at $4.00 a gallon and a 5% rebate, the cost per gallon is $3.80. I know you could have done the math, but think of the time I saved you($$). I will average about 26 mpg around town, but I do try to use as much interstate as possible between Hoover and Trussville.

I thought I was seeing things yesterday!
At the Air National Guard I got 93 Octaine for $2.98 a gallon!
I had to rub my eyes
Also, since Stephen changed out my CVT fluid, had an oil change and new Bridgestone's instead of the runflats....I am getting between 31 to 34 MPG!
It'll slide down to 28 if I drive like a bandit though
I do so love my little car

I read an article saying Jet Pep was a refiner but I have also read an article saying they get the leftovers from the bigoil companies. So I honestly don't know I don't know if they get the leftover oil & refine it in Cullman or if that article was wrong & they just buy the leftover gas from the big companies??
