Ho-oly COW! What'd you do, clay bar that thing? It looks like porcelain. Are those WINDOWS? Wow. Looks like the bar is set pret-ty high this year. Are you listening, Colin-the-engineer...? Anyone else burn out their Dremel yet?

A tip: Silver Sharpie markers work great for converting black stock wheels into real alloys! They also show up reasonably well on darker colors.

If anyone who requested shipping has NOT received their car please let me know (unless you registered in the last week, in which case that batch goes out today - if you let me know anyway, that's OK).

Get started! That paint doesn't dry all that fast sometimes... and drippy paint leads to points lost

Ok, Got my wife's car and mine ready to go.. Almost!!!
Just noticed that one of our cars rearend has only 5/16'' clearance and not the 3/8'' as stated that it needs to be to not rub the "guide" in the track.
Does anyone know if I'm safe with it like that. I don't have access to a track to sit the car on to make sure it doesn't rub.. Any help would be great!!

The info I've been able to find about the track guide is that it is 1/4'' tall so I should be ok. If anyone knows other wise please let me know SOON!!

SERIOUSLY cool!

I'm at Fontana in the lobby as I type this and can also report they've upgraded the string on their two-cans-and-a-string modem....

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!

Great Event. Wife and I had a great time. Had some fellow club members cheering us on. We both did pretty well in the racing and car show part of the event. I finished second in racing, and 3rd in the car show. Kim, my wife WON the car show event.. Big thanks to all who had a part in putting this on and we plan to be a part of it next year. Already thinking on what to do to our next years cars!!!

Suggestions: As I talked to others with cars in the race we were alittle confused on the point system used. I lost 1 race and came in second. My wife lost 2 but finished outside the top 6 or 7.. I think it would be easier and more fair to do bracket kinda like what was mentioned. One for the winners and one for the losers if doing a double elimination. Pair 2 cars together, race them, switch lanes ( as one lane seems to be better then the other ) race again and if need be flip a coin for lane choice on the 3rd race..
Just my 2 cents..

Hey - wanted to thank EVERYONE for their participation and assistance in making this happen again this year!

I've been keeping track of comments and the one that comes up again and again is the scoring system. The computer was GREAT at allowing each car to run a bunch of times, generating results, allowing us to "call" the races well and keeping track of fast cars BUT... and chances are that this is a "me" problem... we didn't have the capability (and suspense and excitement) of having quarterfinals, semis, and a final run-off! It's likely we could have programmed the system to do that and, had I requested it, we certainly would have, but the nature of the event (with organizers coming from all over) didn't get that to happen. I take the responsibility for that.

The plus side was that each car got to run multiple times, we saw some VERY CLOSE racing - with one actual "tie" that the photoelectric eye couldn't even call! We also had some excellent Bubba's Homebaked Nut Rolls, OJ and coffee, and finished up on time. Oh - and stayed out of the rain!

So... next year the scoring system will be more like a "runoffs", with quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. We took some preregistrations - and my wife said she WILL be coming long next year so the food and organization will be even better!

Thanks again, everyone, for making this happen - and helping us "reset" the room for the dinner afterwards!

I can understand the confusion you must have felt about the scoring system. Especially since it was not as originally advertised and changed @ the last minute. (I'm Steve from atlantaminis by the way. I was the one running the computer.) The decision to use the "dynamic scheduling" was to allow for two things. using our allotted time effectively and to allow for maximum racing for everyone. We actually added another round at the end becuase we were doing better than expected on time.
Having run ALOT of derbies over the years I can tell you people are happiest when they are watching their own car race. If we had done the double elimination brackets some people would have raced twice and gone away disapointed. this way even the slowest of the cars got to race 6 times.

As for your car.... (very nice car by the way) You are correct.... You lost one race. which means that you accumulated a total of 7 points. 1 for each win and 2 for the loss. You faced John Monk (our winner) in race 50 and lost. John had a perfect 6 of 6 earning him 6 points and the first place trophy.

As for your Wife Kim's car. (also very very nice) Kim lost three races earning her 9 points. We actually had 5 cars tied @ 2 losses and 8 points. and were going to do a run-off for third when we found out that we were occupying the wrong space and needed to vacate ASAP. At that point the third place was determined using the tie-breaker features of the software. Based on the common opponents and the strength of the schedule that they faced the third place winner was awarded.

All would have been much clearer if a timer were in use rather than the effective but somewhat limited electronic finish line. perhaps next year.

I hope this makes thing a little clearer....... and I hope you had a good time @ the race and will come back next year. Your cars were impressive.

I had a great time at the Dragon Draggin' race on Saturday! It was my 1st pine car event ever (either as a spectator or race participant) as evidenced by the fact that my car, DragonFire, finished in last place. YEE-HAW!! (FYI - During my 2nd race on Saturday, I decided to embrace my potential last place finish instead of being embarrassed by it.) Anyway, for future MOTD Dragon Draggin' races, how about a small prize for the person who finishes last? It would give those of us at the back of the pack something to strive for....

MINIJunkie, thanks for doing your part for this event. I wasn't complaining really, wife and I did well, so I can't. I understand why ya'll did what you did and agree everyone liked seeing their car go down the track all 6 times. Just hard for us and spectators to know where we all stand till the anouncement..
Also glad you joined in on our late ice cream run. I was wanting to talk to you about the racing then just never got up with you. Guess I was too busy eating the ice cream!!! We will be back in it next year and plan to have some of my fellow club members in it as well and not just be our cheering section..
Maybe next year I will have Bridgstone tires instead of Goodyears!!!

MINIJunkie (Steve) - a HUGE thanks for both running the computer "show", as well as all the work leading up to the event. I admit it got a little confusing for me as well, but now that I / we know the event better, next year will be even MORE of a blast. I wish we had the timer as it would've made the results easier to understand, but we've got Grand Plans for next year...

We also had some grand plans for awards at the end, but we had Fontana needing the room and that became a major distraction for your PresenterGuy, me... my sincere apologies... they didn't tell me we only had the right side of the room and a small amount of confusion resulted when they came in and found the room all rearranged... but at least we all got some Bubba's Homebaked Nut Rolls! And thanks to all who stayed back and helped re-rearrange.

LG and Wolfee: Glad you liked your "woodies" (who wouldn't?). You two never fail to make me laugh - or blush

Did anyone happen to pick up a white box with the a red/checkered woodie inside? We did have one missing car after the event, it was mine (not a racer's car) but I wanted to send it to someone...

THANKS ALL!

Not sure who he was - one of the two "colour commentators" - but someone was doing video during the racing. Is it on YouTube?
