2nd Annual Dragon Ice Cream Run
I scream, you scream, lets all scream for some ice cream. Can I get a YEEHAW?
I just spoke with the owner of the world famous Soda Pops ice cream shop and he'd love to have us come through again. We're shooting for an arrival of noon-ish on Saturday, May 3rd, leaving plenty of time to return for some Geocaching. The trip from Fontana Village takes about an hour...maybe a little less. Don't worry about being late, we'll save you some ice cream.
"But that's lunch time" you're saying to yourself? Perfect, cause there's a great deli next to Soda Pops called The Filling Station. They serve some yummy hot and cold sandwiches and we get a 10% discount. Just mention the discount when ordering.
For those leaving from the Fontana Village area, David, aka cabriopilot, has offerred to lead the charge after the photo shoot. So around 11:15, line up behind the Pure Silver Cabrio S with black stripes (see post 31) near the base of the dam. The group drive will use channel 17-1 on FRS radios.
What: Ice Cream Run to Soda Pops in Bryson City
When: Arrive at Soda Pops around noon Saturday. Depart around 11:15AM from the base of the dam if doing the group drive from Fontana Village.
How: Use the maps, silly. Directions map (from Fontana). --and -- Destination map.
How much $$: Depends how much ice cream you want, but bring enough cash to cover it.
Sign-up: Post your best yeehaw below with an ice cream eater count...and it better not sound like the junior dentist from City Slickers.
Swag: T-Shirts and other swag now available via Cafe Press. Sample image below.

Ice Cream Run
If I really must depart by 11am to get there in time then I don't think any of us that are participating in the Group Photo will be able to make it on time.
But if you join us for the group photo then we could all leave together from Fontana Dam.. Just an idea, because I would love to go for some ice cream with all my MINI friends.
And it would be nice to have a few more MINI's in the group photo

Good point about the group photo. Looks like that's going to be wrapping up around 11:15, which shouldn't put participants at Soda Pops much after noon. We'll save some ice cream for ya.
Besides, I think an hour is being generous...maybe someone else has a better recollection of the drive time.

yeah, Bryson City is a nice little walking-town also. There is a really cool old hotel that serves an old country breakfast right beside Soda Pops too. Soda Pops is worth driving well off the beaten path for. Driving to western NC and not getting ice cream is like driving to beach and not putting your toes in the water.
