Dogs at the Dragon?

[edited]
Everyone that is bringing their dogs down, is there any interest in Dragon Dogs™ events? Even something as simple as a sniff and greet? We are thrilled at both a MINI vacation and a dog vacation this year, and if enough are same-minded, thought we could share dog duties.
[/end edit]

[original post]If I'm lucky enough to find a place to stay this year, I was thinking about bringing my dogs along to the dragon.

Has anyone done this? Good idea/bad idea? I don't really know what to expect for all the events, but they love camping.

Hope to see you!

Fontana charges a fortune if you stay in a cabin with your dog...dunno about the campgrounds.

I never brought our dog...cuz there's no room in my S, once I load all the crap I have to haul down there. Perhaps, if we ever get a Clubman, that might change..

Yep... $150 non-refundable deposit if you keep a dog in a Fontana cabin.

People do bring dogs. I really wish I could bring Kodie and Guinness! But they wouldn't fit in Cecilia with all my crapola. Plus, I don't really want to leave them alone all day in the cabin...and I am afraid they would puke all over the Dragon!

I personally don't think you would be able to give your dogs the proper attention if you brought them to this type of event.
And if you had them on your lap while driving the Dragon you would be drawing attention to yourself from the TN HP.

The last time I checked Fontana didn't charge the non-refundable deposit if you were camping.
I thought about bringing my dog since I'm camping again this year, but my worst fear is the rain...
(very large hairy dog + rain + sleeping bag in little tent don't mix to well)

as far as "events" and such, are most indoors or outside? just wondering if the puppies would end up stranded at the tent, which means they'd be better off at home.
But if stuff is outside, or driving, they have seat belts and doggles

Oh no I bring Petey every year. He gets plenty of attention from me & from everyone else when he goes riding with me. He is a great leaner on the dragon curves & he loves being the center of attention when we stop somewhere

Here's Petey's first dragon...

I love it! Great shot.

I saw lots of people with dogs there last year and the dogs seemed to have a good time. I think it really depends on your dog's personality and also your goals for the event (ie, lots of driving vs. lots of hanging out/socializing w/ Fido at your side). Certainly, there would be "waiting around for you in your cabin" time for your dog no matter what but how much time that actually ends up being depends on how much time you want to spend with him. If you want to bring him everywhere (outside) with you then it'll be fun for him and you, IMO.

All the vendors, installs, car show, movie night, and some other events are outside and dog-friendly. However, the pup would have to stay in your cabin during meals and the few inside events like the Brewswap and Monte Carlo night, should you decide to attend these. Driving events would be your call... some dogs probably can't handle the twists and turns but some can.

I do think that Fontana is very easy place to have your dog. It just depends on what you plan to do there.

That's my 2-cents!

Im new to the Mini world, and I've been hearing about this Dragon Event, but I have no idea what/where it is? Is there a web site that one can go to, to learn a little more about it??

this site is a good start. Click the "minis on the dragon" link in the main nav.
or visit: http://www.minisonthedragon.info/

Yeah, the $150 charge is a little steep, but oh well what can you do about it? I guess if your dog doesn't shed you could probably pull a fast one...

I brought my dog last year, he had a blast! And he enjoyed riding on the Dragon too, braced himself on the bolsters on the passenger seat. He definitely made some new Aunts and Uncles!

Cats and Dogs

Since everyone is talking about bringing their Dog along I thought maybe I should bring my cat.
She's a bit skitish at first but I believe most will warm up to her eventually.
My little kitties name is "Burger and Fries" and I'm enclosing a video of her so that you can start warming up to her NOW.

I question this only because I remember looking into your MINI and not seeing slashes throughout the upholstery

I don't have scratches in my upholstery because of a special Kevlar liner that I had installed, it looks like regular seating but its not.

how many people ARE bringing their dogs along? Looks like maybe 2 others from this thread so far.
Just curious as it might be fun to do a Dog Drive, or a Sniff and Greet or something for all the Dragon Dogs™ that show up.

We will have our Yorkies with us, they stay at the campground mostly. We did take them with us to the drive in movie and when looking thru the vendors....

[blinks] see's three and a beagle....

depending on all the Dragon Dogs™ schedules, maybe we can come up with a puppy sitting share service or something? this is our first trip down, so I have no idea what to really expect, but I know that area is BEAUTIFUL, and would love to get out of the MINI and take some Dragon Dog™ Walks...

any interest?
