Detailing Done at Dealership?
Detailing Done at Dealership?
I was thinking about getting my car detailed and Waxed at my dealership since i live in the city and aren't able to hand wash and wax my car myself. Anybody have good experience with having there dealership wax and detail there car? Do you know what kind of wax they use? thanks!

It probably depends on your dealership. And it certianly isn't worth it to me but it would be to others. Our dealership uses Meguires Gold wax.

Most dealerships don't really have "detailers." They have "car washers." The difference is that a detailer would choose specific materials and supplies to care for your car that would enhance its long-term beauty. A washer is there to get the dirt off.
I'd bet that you could find someone to do a better job for the same $ that the dealer would charge.
Personally, I don't even let the dealer GIVE me a free wash. I have signs in my trunk that say "DO NOT WASH THIS CAR", because I've seen the dammage these guys have done to other cars.

Here's a copy of my sign in PDF format.
When I ordered my MINI, I specifically asked the MA not to wash the car. He said "OK... no problem... I'll have them hand wash it instead." I stared at him for a few seconds and said "No... I don't think you understand. I don't want you to wash it, AT ALL." You should have seen the puzzled look on his face... like I had asked for him to deliver the car with no tires!
When he came back from valuing my trade-in, he understood. I had just clay-bared the car that morning and applied a nice, fresh coat of Zaino

Thanks for the PDF agranger! I've only had one return visit to the dealer so far, asked them not to wash the car, and of course, they did. No damage that I saw, but still I wasn't happy. I'm returning on Thursday of this week for some things to be done, and now I can strategically place, oh, maybe 20 or so of your signs in the car and maybe they'll get the message.

All dealerships are different, but I had the detailing done last time mine was in and they did a HORRIBLE job. I'm still finding wax in areas and removing it myself. I fussed with them enough that they gave me a HUGE discount on the job, but I will never make that mistake again.

Though I still want to chrome the interior, intake, throttle body, exhaust header and cat back. Stripes, Wheels and tires.... For me it will take time. Not the instant gratification that $$$$ allows.
