Quick question....Forgive my ignorance please....
If a main channel is already reserved does that mean that the same main channel cannot be reserved with a different sub channel?
Example: Blue Grass Mini has Channel 9 Sub Channel 5 reserved....Could we reserve Channel 9 Sub Channel 1 (and have it not interfer with their channel)?
Thank you!

I hope that Paul! will chime in here if more detail is necessary (or I get something wrong.) But here is a simplified version of an answer:
Possibly.
Ideally, everyone would choose their own channel and subchannel before we double up on any of the main channels. I believe that the problem arises from how different radios use/recognize the subchannels. Here is a bit from Paul!'s earlier longer explanation:

The way they work is like so: The channels are individual frequencies. The sub-channels of a channel are on the same freq, but use a different 'call-up header' when you push the button, so the radios know what sub-channel you're talking on, and know whether to receive the communication, or to ignore it.
The problem is this: When you're communicating on a channel, you're also effectively communicating on all of the sub-channels, even if radios listening to other sub-channels don't pick it up. This is a problem because if you have two or more groups operating on a channel, even if they're on separate sub-channels, they will interfere with and jam each other.

Here is an explination. Let's use channel #1.
Any radio set to Channel #1 regardless of subcode, (38) CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) codes or (83) DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes, still receives ALL traffic on channel #1.
The subcode is used to trigger your radio to open the squelch to hear the transmission. However your radio is actually receiving everything, you just won't hear it.
So if everyone were using the same channel even with different subcodes, the radio frequency (462.5625 UHF) for channel #1 would be saturated, and there will be lot's of interference, which will lessen the already crappy range of these radios, and will allow crosstalk, and transmissions to be "stepped on" by others.

Since there's still main channels available, I would go with them. But, if, for example, Blue Grass MINI is staying at Fontana, and your group is at Tapoco, it probably won't be a problem, just as long as the two groups stayed a healthy distance away from each other. Now if your group drove over to Fontana and started using the same channel (even if it's different subchannels), the two groups would be interfering with each other.

Another dumb question - As stated by Mielnicki, there are two sub codes 1 thru 38 CTCSS and 1 thru 83 DCS. When you list something like 21 sub 21, which are you refering to? Would there not be two different sub 21s? DCS and CTCSS? I am confused (not hard to do)

Yes there would be 2, but we are refering to the more common, CTCSS.

Wow, the channels are filling up! Only 3 left. Since some people leave before others and so that folks have a little time to print the directory if they choose, I think we should close requests next Wednesday, Apr 25.
Since we are getting close to filling the channels, I'll just re-state that any groups not staying at Fontana are welcome to use a channel already chosen - but at least pick a different subchannel. There may be some intereference issues when everyone is at Fontana but we're just gonna have to manage!

We have been using them for a few months now, They are fantastic. They have alot more power than at talkabout. Most talkabout have about 1/4 of a watt of transmitting power, The handhelds we use are putting out 5 watts, and the moblies are putting out 45 watts. They are alot cleaner in sound and they can go alot further than talkabouts. We have been super happy with them.
