Flying by the seat of our pants...

Ok, so here's the deal:

This is my first excursion onto NAM, typically I'm over at M2 or OSMC or MAMA, but after two years of missing out on the Dragon.. hell, what's one more forum?

Myself and one other person will be driving down from New Hampshire and Mass.. we have no rooms, we have no plans... in the spirit of my friend Ed "Maxamini" Smith, we're just flying by the seat of our pants .. I wish I had been on here longer and had the opportunity to make some aquiantances BEFORE I go down there, but that's the beauty of it...

I'm all ears and open to any suggestions for stuff to do or places to go..

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you down there! Cheers!

The plates say it all..

You'll have a great time. Let me know if you need something, I'll help if I can. Hope to see you at the movie!

BTW.. what club is hosting this?.. are they hosting the whole MOTD deal or just that portion of it?.. We have MINI's on Top up here and it's not so much a club thing... we're pretty loosely knit up here so we migrate around to each others events all the time and help each other out..

Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club is hosting the movie. Other clubs do all sorts of stuff.

Welcome to NAM, MetalMINIMayhem!

Check out the Event Planner to see what's on the schedule. https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/motd-events

DC Metro MINIs is the organizing club, and there are a number of other MINI clubs hosting a variety of events.

I recommend that you go to www.tailofthedragon.com and click on the lodging links near the bottom of the home page. Most of the events emanate from Fontana Village, so you may want to give them a call. Sometimess new accommodations free up, so it's worth trying. Alternatively, you could stay in Robbinsville at the Microtel. Robbinsville is the closest little town to the Dragon. Tapoco Lodge is booked.

See you there!

Don't miss the scenic drive on Saturday morning (runs into Saturday afternoon).

Given your 'seat of the pants' approach, you may want to bookmark the 'available rooms' thread!

yeah I think we are leaving that Thursday to get down there Friday afternoon/evening.. (it's about 1,000 miles)... I'll definately have to check those posts to find a room, worst case, we're just gonna hit a local campground or something and sleep in the cars..

Thanks guys... that's what I love about these little cars... you know, I moved here (NH) from Orlando in 2002, in two years all I did was work, I made very little friends except with the people I worked with and pretty much became a PGR 2 expert..LOL!.. in 2004 I bought my first MC and it was all downhill from there..LOL! This past w/e my parents and a couple "MINI people" put together a huge surprise 30th b-day party for me and about 30 MINIs showed up (apparently they had been planning this for a couple of months..WOW!)... some of them drove 3-4 hours to get there.. one of my pals in the club summed it up best that night... he pulled me aside and said I haven't seen you smile like that in months, and to think, all of this because of these little cars of ours.. so true.. man, my cheeks were so sore that night when I went home from all night... I love the car, but it's the people that are turning it into a counter-culture phenomenon... I can't wait to get down there and meet even more people who loves these cars and the comeraderie that goes along with them as much as I do..

just for kicks, here's some pictures from my b-day party bash.. some are embarassing, but whatever.. it's still pretty cool that they did this for me..

Up to you, man... I prefer evening/night driving.. I was thinking hit the road early afternoon (2-3pm), that way we should get there if we drive all night roughly 10 am-ish, plenty of time to meet some folks and find our place, get freshened up, naptime, whatever.. I know I'll be dragging my *** by then..LOL!

That's fine with me. I know I will def be dragging *** then too, all night driving through places I've never driven is always a good thing. and neither one of us have NAV!

I've been there before a few years back... it ain't all that bad.. Mapquest, baby!... Think I might pull out the old Ed Smith special and use the "Analog NAV system"..

this should be handy enough...

we are doing this on a whim anyways... hell, it'll be the trip that makes it worth it.. anything beyond that is "bonus" in my book

Just saw this thread... Looks like you had a fun birthday! My MINI was a 30th b-day gift to myself, and it opened up a whole new world of friendships and fun!!! This is my first Dragon too, though I've been to AMVIV twice and have made lots of "virtual friends" here on NAM. I'm sure you'll have a great time!
