Interesting, so then to re-enable it, just pick my model type and engine? Im 99% sure when I shut it off it did jump to the F021 model actually

my information is based on reading the F30/F25 Bimmer forums but all i know is that with disabling ASD it's still present (a little bit) but changing to F021 completely disables it. i would suggest testing it and getting your own feel for it. fwiw, i have mine set to F021 because i also didn't notice any difference when just disabling it.

Marco.

Mini_Vinnie 02-18-2018 05:57 PM

Yeah I renabled it today and can’t tell a difference

Minnie.the.Moocher 02-18-2018 06:40 PM

Pull fuse that powers ASD module and that will tell you if the coding did anything or not.

Mini_Vinnie 02-18-2018 07:25 PM

True. I’m straight piped anyway so what’s a little more sound :)

Is it possible to make a backup before mucking around? I have a brand new 2018 S convertible and don't want to screw anything up. It's nearly perfect but I'd like to make a couple of tweaks.

the answer is yes, but i don't know if the bimmercode app does it. coding the old fashioned way (E-sys) allows you to read your current coding module and save it as "original". you can then treat it like a word document. you can copy that file, rename it "modified", make changes (not even connected to the car) and then when you're ready to code it to the car, you plug in, open up that file, and apply the coding. if you messed up, open up "original", and code the values and it will revert everything.

but again, this is only with e-sys. if there is a way bimmercode app does it, i wouldn't know how to.

good luck! fyi, it's very hard to break something, so don't be too concerned.

Mini_Vinnie 02-24-2018 06:37 AM

Yep, the BimmerCode app does it automatically when you hit code

Do you know how to restore the backup?

Do you code with the engine running or not, Bimmercode says not running, but I am concerned that if ignition times out during coding," bad things" may happen.

Thanks,
Joe

Mini_Vinnie 02-26-2018 11:15 AM

Not running, just hit the toggle switch once so the radio, gauges, heater etc... power up.

I shut off all of that before I code. Also, keep the door open. It will keep the car from sleep mode. When we flashed our ECUs the instructions said to keep the door open and plug in the driver's seatbelt. Id do that if you are coding a lot of things.

Also, I coded some things, started the car up and drove about 15-20mins to get more charge in the battery then coded the rest of the stuff I wanted in there.

Will this also reset the oil change or service reminder and also error codes?

Mini_Vinnie 02-27-2018 11:25 AM

No, this is just coding.

I use the OBD Fusion app ($10) to reset codes and allegedly the Carly App can reset service reminders but I havent had a chance to test that app

I tried to code the rear fog lights and got them to work. (in expert mode)

Then I tried under 'Air Conditioning' to 'remember last settings'. (in standard mode)
Now I can't turn off the air conditioning. I can raise it but not turn it off. It also keeps the rear defroster on but it keeps blinking. And the auto start/off doesn't activate on stopping. The light works but not the function.

I tried to restore but get an error. I just get a red light on the app next to air conditioning.

I also disconnected the battery but it didn't effect anything.

I email their customer support so waiting on a response.

Has anyone else ran into this problem?

I can't hard code it anymore since my laptops (mac&win) stopped connecting to my car.

spotted 03-12-2018 12:29 PM

Just needed to cycle.
Once it did, I restored and left it as is.

Mini_Vinnie 03-12-2018 12:37 PM

Yep code it and literally sit there and run it’s course. Once you code it the app should give you a prompt saying to let it reset and don’t go above 1k rpm

Scared the heck out of me the 1st time I did it too. Had the same result

spotted 03-12-2018 01:07 PM

Didn't get any prompts.
But it's fine now.

I had the same "oh sh-t!" moment when I coded that too and the same thing happened

Miniminic 03-16-2018 04:28 PM

Bought bimmercode app today also and started coding. Already experienced with esys but laptop is too old for new esys premium launcher. So bimmercode and Bluetooth 4.0 vgate pro adapter bought.
Have a countryman phev 2017. With updated software in jan 2018. Bimmercode saw almost nothing. After the update it sees most ecu’s now. But i get a lot of errors when i want to read an ecu. More people have this issue?
Also kombi ecu can’t be coded in mine. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...98b84e6955.png

Loonysup 03-16-2018 04:33 PM

That’s odd. When I first got BimmerCode several months ago, it was missing features for my 18 Clubman but that was because some modules changed. With the latest update, it finally has everything I was looking for. Was able to finally turn off the over sensitive passenger seatbelt warning today.

Mini_Vinnie 03-16-2018 08:39 PM

Thats what mine looks like also after the newest app update about 2 weeks ago

When i am in the ecu i can keep coding without issues. Anyone else have this?

Did you email Bimmercode? The developer is extremely responsive to questions.
