Great Detroit to Dragon Caravan (via I-75)

It’s never too early to start this thread since it’s only 6 months away! Better to plan way ahead. So here is the GREAT CARAVAN THREAD!! We start in Detroit Michigan in the very early morning, we hook up with other mini along the way, and we take over the road along the way. Last year there was 12 or 13 cars, I think we ca double it this year. Calling all minis going to the dragon. Plan on meeting up with us and have some fun. Post here to be kept up to date with what is going on, or watch for post that we make so you know where we will be at times, let us know, and we will meet you!

I'll be meeting up with yo in Ohio again this year. That was a blast taking the road over. I think sumwon and I are going to caravan from Illinois and meet up with you there. I still have the times sheet from this year, so I know what time to be at our spot. I heard we were going to meet in at a different exit this time though.

StLouieLo 10-08-2004 08:34 PM

Maybe we could meet up with you too. I don't know of anyone from St Louis going for sure yet.

Lois:grin:

Don't forget Meeeeeeeeee!

Remember Lois, I am still coming from Denver to StL via KC to join you all...I am planning to have Rocky Mountain company and to pick up some in KC too.

Please plan us in....

I haven't forgotten, Jonathan.
I've been trying to drum up some interest in the St Louis Club. Looking forward to seeing you again.

A really really long drive down I 75 and then basically when we hit Knoxville Tenn we hit a couple of other roads to get to the gap. Alot of us are taking other highways to meet up with them though. They start up by Detroit I think.

Detroit Tuned 10-11-2004 08:00 AM

yeah we start in detroit with a bunch of cars and go down I-75, picking cars up on the way. most anyone from any midwest state has to reach I-75 at some point to get there and it's always more fun with more cars.

Is it really a Northeast Caravan?

Call me a nit picker if you will...

But can a caravan that starts in Detroit and stays several hundred miles from the East Coast really be called an East Coast Caravan?

Shouldn't the group that sets out from New England or the DC/Baltimore area and runs down I-95 and I-81 get to call themselves the North East Caravan?

I think the Great Ohio River Valley Caravan might be more accurate...

And is it anal retentive or anal-retentive?

2005LY 10-14-2004 01:40 PM

MN to WI to IL and beyond

I'm sure we'll meet up with you along the way too! We'll be heading down through Illinois.

Boy, and I thought I was a super duper planner.

........i'm like the only MINI on the road, i guess i own the road:thumbsup:

1) I think it's anal-rententive, but I'm partial to hyphenated words

2) I guess we in NE Ohio tend to think of ourselves as being generally in the Northeast. I don't know what the Detroit-ers excuse is , though. I hear you on the geographic misnomer of the group. Midwest Caravan? North Central Caravan? You know. Whatev. That being said, I'm sure Sarcux & I will want to join the Northeast (Not So Much) Caravan. More MINIs = More Better!!

Sarcux 10-28-2004 07:12 PM

If anyone from NE Ohio besides Jess and I come... blah. We'll caravan regardless. :)

Ryephile 10-31-2004 09:13 PM

*Per Tradition, I will be heading up the planning of the Caravan (whatever it's prefix may be, lol)

The Caravan unofficially "begins" in Metro Detroit at 6:30am (the Meijer at the corner of 8 Mile and Haggerty, actually) on Thursday, May 5th, 2005. From there, as AGOKART stated, we'll pick up sub-groups along the way! We'll be at the Kentucky rest stop just south of Cincinnati at 11:30am, and Lexington for Lunch about 1pm. If all goes to plan we end up at Fontana Village about 5:30pm, just enough time to check-in and head to the Welcome Dinner!

If you and/or your group wants to meet up, PM me and I'll coordinate you into the schedule!

Cheers,
Ryan

Sounds awesome Wraith! Hmm, we might ask for you to take beverage pre-orders on your way down the the meet point!

--->Herbie - You may want to chat with Sarcux and/or Minzila and meet up with them as a pre-meeting point before meeting up with us in the main Caravan! Just an idea. Look forward to seeing you!

Cheers,
Ryan

I think we should stop at a Sonic instead of the usual Chic-fil-a. Jess and I have wanted to try a Sonic in forever, but the closest one to us is south of Cincinatti - 4 hours way, teehee.

I believe the Meijer has a "Starbucks" for the early morning caffeine fix:thumbsup:

ImaVunDerBrah 02-09-2005 09:55 AM

I'm thinking about sitting at a gas station at the Mich/Ohio border, just off the highway and waiting until I see you guys blow by. We should be able to get out of the gas station parking lot and onto the highway just as the last car in the caravan is passing by.. and we can just fall in line at the end.

Wraith1416 02-09-2005 11:15 AM

ryan, i'll take any food and beverage pre-orders for the morning hours. i'll be stopping at my store on the way down there and picking everything up:thumbsup:
