On my one month and 1,000 miles mark, on the interstate highway 200 miles away from home and Saturday afternoon an hour before local dealer service department close, the Check Engine Light turned on on my 2019 SE. Not sure the cause yet, very inconvenient situation... Had a experience with previous BMW i3 just shut down on the highway unexpected, really don't want to take my chance.
Called MINI Roadside Assistance, they only covered towing for up to 50 miles (or to the closest dealership) plus to provide ride for up to 99 miles. Not an ideal situation in my case.
Decided to drop off the car at the destination dealership at last minute to give a check ( on Monday), at least they do provide a unlimited miles loaner... Just have to have another road trip to pick up the car.
Well that sucks.. Hopefully it is nothing too serious. Keep us posted.
FYI, Our dealer offered us ~$800 in accessories for some of the inconveniences we had to endure in the early months of ownership. We had some weird noise coming from the steering wheel (was in 2x for that) and had a kinked A/C condensation line that essentially flooded the driver/passenger floors.
Our check engine light comes on and go off regularly it seems. Its done it about 1/2 a dozen times in 5k miles. I have not worried about it much, I think / guess maybe its because I'm not putting super fuel in it, only regular.
i have had 0 times in 23.000km’s. Also i can read my own car without going to the dealer but in Holland we have no problem with towing. It’s all included and there is always one within 50 km’s anyway. Raja you have a obd adapter. With an app you can read the fault codes if you don’t want go driving to dealership. But assuming it is fuel is wrong in my book. I never use 98. Always use 95 fuel
Can’t find that code. Maybe a typo? Doesn’t the app state what it means?
i looked 87 up. It seems comparable with 92 if we would have 92. The worst we have here is 95 which i use. So 87 is not great but what does your dealer say to use? Do others have issues with 87?
I just looked again, its U182B no zero. The bimmercode code app I don't think checks codes, I used another app "car scanner" but when I check what it means it does a google search and comes up with gibbrish. If you search online I think it has something to do with O2 sensor stuff like that, so maybe its low octane fuel related that's what I'm thinking.
Yes, after the deanship checked the computer read, they told me that it states the battery required be charged more frequently. Kind odd, and not really helpful...
I've also had U182B, 2019 Countryman SE. Twice in the last month the check engine light has come on. Brought it in twice for it (and another unrelated issue.) First time, the dealer updated the programming. This most recent time, I was told that it's still a known issue that shouldn't affect anything, and MINI is working on another programming update to eliminate it. It's never caused me to go into limp mode or anything, so I'm not too worried about it.
Hey, I’m a BMW/MINI genius... the code is actually for your seat memory, when it develops a fault it will throw that code. Usually resets after 4 start ups and drives. But it’s a U code because of it being an interior electric fault instead of a P code which is engine related. Hope that helps.
I'm reviving this thread because I just got the U182B as the cause of a CEL in my 2019 PHEV.
I believe dunphyj is correct in the seat memory, but our Mini only throws the code when one or more of the three are present: the second key is present, the second driver profile is selected or the second seat memory is selected. Still working to isolate this.
Once profile 1, key 1 or seat 1 is select, the CEL goes off after the next drive cycle.
Anyone ever get a definitive answer from Mini on this error and how to resolve for good?
This thread may be 5 years old, but it just saved me from a 30 mile drive and drop-off at my dealership to find out I just needed set the seats back to preset 1. Thank you so much
