Fill'er-up
This has happened twice to me so far. Anyone else?
I fill the tank, and even top it off a little, but then once back in the car, the gauge reads less than full. So weird!! I have the new 2018-style gas gauge. |
That's happened to me in my R60 so now I sort of pay attention to how much *should* be going into the tank.

Next time don't put the nozzle so deep (LOL yeah)...
I've noticed on some cars with some types of nozzles that they stop filling early depending on the angle and depth. haha... yeah yeah. sounds dirty! |
what does the new gauge look like?

The tank is full in the pic you posted.
(The fuel gauge is pretty basic) If you want exact, just use your Miles to Empty gauge/setting. |
Not sure if this means anything. But I normally or to one station since they are priced right and turn over lots of fuel soe it's fresh all the time. But on one fill, they were busy and I said what the heck, I'll use another. They were a couple cents more, but open pumps. The fill was quick and like normal when going for a long run, I capped the tank. When I got in it wasn't full. For the heck of it I went to my normal station and finished the fill. Seems the other station 'fills so quickly', it over pressures the tank and shuts the pump off. My normal station doesn't and I up in almost 5 more gallons to fill and cap the tank.
Could it be the tank over pressure or more foaming of the fuel shutting it off ? Does it happen at every fill at different stations - different pumps ? |
I'm confused of what you guys are saying? The new gauge only has 8 lights that light up orange. It's a 16.1 Gallon tank, so each orange light represents about 2 gallons.

HE's saying that when he fills up the pump stops automatically so he thinks it's full. But then when he gets in the car the gauge doesn't show full. This is because the pump is stopping when the tank is not full. This happens when there is a lot of "backsplashing" inside the tank triggering the sensor on the nozzle to think the tank is full. As I mentioend above, if you pull the nozzle out half way and continue pumping it or adjust the angle of the nozzle inside the slot it should fill the rest of the way, or if you don't pull the trigger all the way and do a slower flow of fuel it may not splash up so much and cause the nozzle to trip and think it's full before it really is. I've had this happen plenty of times with various vehicles or pumps... it's nothing new.

Never had an issue like that. I assumed he thought his gauge wasn't going to the top line, therein thinking it wasn't completely full. I traded in my 13 explorer sport for my countryman and the digital gas gauge on that too looked like it never got to the top of the fill line. Just a stupid design that drove my wife nuts. |

Just read on facebook, in one of the Mini countryman groups, that it was suggested that the gas tank/neck is poorly designed and an air bubble can get stuck in it, which causes your tank to get less filled than normal times.
Someone said they shake/rock their car after filling up to get more gas in. :lol: |
