Rick may make some suggestions

(he is from SF) but here is mine:

Take I-25 north to Pueblo, CO. Go west on Hwy 50 towards Canon City, CO. As Hwy 50 gets to the end of town and turns north, watch for a right turn to take a little road called Skyline Drive. (see the picture header right here in NAM. Those 3 MINIs....they are on Skyline Drive. 1 lane, paved, up above town. Great view, 15 minute diversion, worth the trip.) Then get back on 50 and continue....

A little way outside of Canon City, take a right on Hwy 9 northbound. Go thru Hartsell and into Fairplay. Continue on Hwy 9 to Frisco, then take I-70 westbound about 6 miles to....Copper Mountain Resort and MITM2.

Check it out on your map. Very nice and scenic road, and you can avoid the Denver area traffic.

Who: Dan, CoopahS and I are #5693n (or is it #5396?)
Where: Peoria, AZ (no, it isn't in IL, it's in Phoenix!)
Club: Dynamic MiNi Collective - Desert Rat Pack chapter
When: Heading out on Wednesday morning with our DMC/DRP caravan, staying the night in Pagosa Springs and then up to Copper on Thursday morning - exact route from Pagosa this year still TBD
How Many: This is our second MitM.

With any luck, we'll be in our second MINI, or maybe even pick it up there, so keep your fingers crossed for us (unless you're shifting!).

We'd already lined up a friend to be the dog-sitter for those dates before registration opened!

So tell us....

what is your ROUTE to Copper from San Diego? Google Map us or something so we know which way to look, and so we can suggest some scenic alternatives, in case you are interested....

Well, we're thinking to get there...we're going to be excited, and we're looking at a 13.5 hour drive. So, if we leave San Diego at 4AM on Wed, just take the I15 to the I70 (stopping in Vegas for a late breakfast and a couple hours of gambling, shopping, and leg-stretching), leave Vegas at Noonish, we'll hit Copper Mountain around 8:30ish Wednesday night. We'll be tired, but we'll be there, and we'll find a cheap-o hotel/motel to crash at that night, since our resort reservations don't start until Thursday night.

On the way home, however, we are thinking of a slower more leaisurely pace. Leave late-ish Sunday afternoon, check out more scenery, get a couple hours and a few miles behind us, and then stop somewhere for the night - and make the long haul home on Monday, doing some sight-seeing along the way.

We're open to suggestions on "must sees" on our route home.

Doing I-15 and I-70

from Vegas to Denver is about 11 - 12 hours, depending on your momentum. And you lose an hour. And fuel stops, but maybe only 1.....

And Copper is 90 miles before Denver...I can see 10 hours plus a loss of time zone.....

An easy ride

would be Vegas to Grand Junction, then you can even sleep in and still make it to Copper in less than 3 hrs from there on Thursday...see you at Noon.

Heck, if needed, we can start the brew swap early.

OK, now check this one out

San Diego to Flagstaff to Cortez to Durango. Wednesday.

Thursday, Durango to Copper.

That part in northern AZ between Flagstaff and Cortez - totally unpopulated, wide open, gorgeous just south of the Grand Canyon. Very, very unpopulated. Reservation area. Get the hint?

We are all suited up with Valentine or Escort 9500i's, plus GPS Nav....radios, and cell phones. We will uh.....be obeying all posted limits *cough*

Thanks...running it by the group as I type. Better make these decisions quick here...they've been drinking for about 2 hours now.

That was awesome, Jim! Could barely tell the wagon was there

We'll be hitting Hastings end of July on the bikes, so come on by. Minden is only, what a hop skip and jump away... at least somewhere close in Nebraska?

I think Hastings is more like just a hop. I will be around. PM me with details on your trip. See you in July.

Totally off topic but are we going to see CORN t-shirts this year?

edit:
I just saw another post where you linked the cafepress.com page. Guess I'll have to look into ordering one of those if you don't bring any with you.

What if we can't make it?

My wife and I attended MITM last year and we had a great time and are looking forward to possibly attending this year's event. But as of yet, due to unknown and unforeseeable circumstances, we may not be able to make it. But if we do attend, we want to make our lodging reservations at Copper Mountain as soon as possible to take advantage of the great rate posted on the registration. My question is this, if we sign up for the rally and lodging now, but then cannot make it, will there any refund? If so, what are the limitations if any, e.g., how much time beforehand do we have to give before we surrender our payment?

Can't help you with the rally registration but I just got off the phone with the Copper Mtn reservation folks and they do charge your credit card a certain percentage at the time you make reservations and then 2 weeks before the event they'll take the rest out. They do offer travel insurance in case something comes up where you can't make it to the event. If I remember correctly that insurance price is dependent on the total cost of your stay there. I didn't take the insurance because I'll drag myself out of the hospital if I have to make it there.

Hope that helps a little bit.
