Not sure if I follow you...you have the Mynes Header, with cat(?), a JCW resonator pipe or a R56 resonator(?) and a My Mini cat back?

The R53 JCW resonator is about twice as long as the R56 MCS one...hook that to the Mynes header(with a cat) and an R56 MCS muffler and I bet it will be much better.
If it's still too loud after that, put the R56 MCS resonator in line. My exhaust does not sound ricey at all.

I don't know why people still complain about the "rice" sound. Its a 4 cylinder engine. They all have about the same note. I have said it many times before, but I will say it again....You need to treat the exhaust on this car as any n/a 4 cylinder engine.

Play around with resonators or make your own back half setup like a lot of us did. You have to play with things to get the sound right.

There's no getting away from that noise, you can just try to eliminate as many of the unwanted tones as you can.

For reference... Stock header, no cat, 3" straight pipe from the header to the bumper...

I think changing the header really makes the 1-3-4-2 firing order of the Tritec more distinct at idle and above. I know on my catless megan header with the M7 exhaust it had a very unique sound, then with Alta's well melted that, then currently going the strongest and most reliable is the borla race same different tone and what not as the rest. Forgot to mention the stock S motor is pretty lopey which is very evident with no cat.

Partsman, yes I have the Mynes header with cat, followed by the front half of the "My Mini" cat-back witch has a fairly long resonator, followed by the R56 muffler tucked high where the batt. box was, the tips pipes "rotated" down, and no tip yet. I have had the My Mini cat-back for years with the stock header and only cold start would sound "metallic" not ricey. When hot it was unnoticeable from the one ball at idle and spoke only when asked: Foot down, and never in a ricey manner.
My first change will be to try inserting the R56 resonator in line, if that doesn't do it, ( it is so loud I doubt it will) I'll gut the My Mini exhaust and repackage it in the same space as the "R56". I slept on it now, and I think I can apply the Dr.PhilGandini theory : length is important. It will look F1 too!
And not-so-rednwhitecooper, try to tell the AWG guys they sound like Honda/toyota rice , even the Suby guys will grill you for that!

The Subarus are an exception, but that's just because of a garbage OEM header design. Throw a proper header on it and it sounds like any other turbocharged I-4.

Its really any engine with a small bore and/or small displacement. No matter what they will have similar sounds.

Its all in how you decide to control it. I use a Car Chemistry bullet muffler. When I go and do the straight exhaust on my Blue car, I will probably use the JCW back half and another round canister muffler between the resonator and JCW muffler. Once the car is at WOT, the mufflers dont make much of a difference, but they keep it quiet under 4 grand or so.

There are few equal-length headers on the market for the Subaru WRX/STis. Most of them out there, even high quality ones like Tomei, are unequal length. Although Tomei does make both equal and unequal length with the explanation that equal length has a quicker turbo spool, but unequal length has better response.

Got the R56 resonator welded in today. It is very tight in the heat shield, sticks out about 1.5 inch under the car, and added 3 lbs to the system. It's a lot quieter, still loud above 32/3300 RPM but I can deal with it. It screams when floored but the "ricey /High pitch" is gone. And it farts and burble like nobody's business when letting off the throttle .
This week end I worked on repackaging (on paper) the My Mini to fit in the center, I think V3 is a winner : same muffler, same length of tubing, almost the same number of bends, and it fit in a smaller space than the R56 muffler . It looks really twisted (trick) and will be 6 lbs lighter than the R56v2 .

Hello

Here is my latest, A old zoomers system had single muffler under shifter, i removed the zoomers muffler added a MOROSO spiral flow muffler with a flowmaster venturi type reducer, MUCH better sound,
Took a ton of RICE out of the exhaust note

Much less back pop and in car pressure is gone! i can enjoy road trips again

Header wraped starting behind muffler going toward cat, returning over muffler, ( so two layers )
then all the way back, to Y. which had header wrap on area under tank, That area is 3 layers now, warm to touch with car running, No pre heated fuel
