Engine starts jumping at 4500 rpm's

I purchased a 2013 Mini Countryman S a month ago and everything seems to working as it should except for one issue. When I'm pushing it hard when it hits around 4,500 rpm's it feels like the engine starts cutting out. At first I thought that it might be an issue with the transmission but know I'm scared it might be the HPFP going out. It seems like it is only happening in 3rd or 4th gear and higher. Have any of y'all experienced this issue? I'm hoping you guys are gonna say this is a cheap fix. My last Mini had the dreaded tensioner failure which I traded off after replacing it. I love Mini's but 2 bad experiences in a row will probably lead me to never buying another Mini.

Mileage, auto or manual, what does it sound like, and what does your tach do when this occurs?

"Cheap Fix" and 'MINI' generally dont belong in the same sentence....

It has 84,00 miles, automatic. I went out today so I could pay attention to the tach and it would stop going higher rpm's for just a split second then start pulling again then it happened. Engine light came on and it had virtually no power so I'm guessing now it is stuck in limp mode. Luckily I was just a couple miles from my house so I got it back went and got my haircut while it sat for about and hour and it is still in the same shape as when I left it. Any help from you guys on what I should try next would be greatly appreciated.

If you've got a CEL and limp mode you'll have codes stored. Pull the codes to see what's going on.

I guess I'm going to go ahead and buy a scanner incase I keep the car. I unhooked the negative cable and after a couple of hours I hooked it back up and started it, still the engine light and the little exclamation point but it sounds like it is running normal now. I know it's not fixed but could this be a good sign?

Nope. Either buy a scanner and advise us on the codes or take it into a place like "Pep Boys" who will read the codes for free.

Thanks mikey, will Pep Boys be able to pull specific codes so I know exactly what I need to address?
