Hey there, new Countryman owner with a few questions!

Hello there everyone,
my name is Rob, out of Salt Lake City.
My wife and I who recently got married, decided that it was time to treat ourselves a bit, as well as get into the AWD kind since we live in UT, and didn't really have the best cars to drive in the winter. I myself have two older BMWs,
(E30) but they definitely will not be seeing snow. I went out and got a Golf R, as I've owned and modified a few different VW's in my past.

She, on the other hand has quite a few friends with Countryman's, so she went out and LEASED a 2016....

I wasn't very happy about it, because there are so many stipulations that come with leasing.

My big question is, at this point if we want to do anything to the car, it pretty much has to be approved by the dealer, AND, most likely done through the dealer.
With Christmas coming up, I was thinking it'd be nice to maybe go with some sort of lowering kit, my guess is JCW makes a decent one, and then wheels for a Christmas present to her. Let me know if you've leased, and what your experiences were, with trying to do any sort of modifications!

One of my BMW's just for kicks.

That BMW was probably my favorite car! I wouldn't mod a lease car beyond simple bolt on items. Tuning box like JB+ is good. If it's her car, I wouldn't touch it at all if you plan a long term marriage. My wife has a leased MINI that I haven't done anything to, 30 years of marriage has taught me a few things.

Good luck

Cool...Here's the one I built for fun a couple years ago. Kind of an OEM look. Started out as $300 basket-case...

Wow, very impressive. $300? Amazing. Very much in stealth mode but looks like it's ready to pounce!

Getting back to your original Countryman questions...
I think you can do basic mods to the vehicle (suspension, wheels, as you're asking about) as long as you're ready to undo them before turning the vehicle back in. Engine mods (other than plug and play, like JB+) would introduce a different level of assumed risk.

** No, I haven't leased a vehicle. This is just my understanding from past discussions with Motoring Advisor friends and the omnipotence of the internet. And once, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
