Center Arm rest won't open!

Hi All- For some reason the arm rest storage area on my 2011 Countryman decided it needed some privacy! The darn thing will not open! The button seems to be stuck "pressed in" and the latch will not unlock. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this thing open? Thanks so much!

This just happened in my 2014 Countryman. I tried pushing a screwdriver against the latch and can't get it to open. Did anyone else figure out how to get it open?

On the subject of center consoles, our new to us 2015 CMS All4 doesn't have a center console, but it looks like it would be rather easy to add one to the central rails between the sport seats. I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but any advise is much appreciated. The whole thing with the twin rails setup is a bit confusing to me.

Thanks!

We’ve had two CMs and built both on line and the arm rest was an option which we selected. This should be available as an OEM part from MINI. ...installs at the very rear of the twin rails, makes setting the parking brake somewhat awkward and shifting if you have a standard, but once your use to it...no problem.
There are probably some after market options out there as well.

Thanks Jimbo,

I can't believe I missed it when looking at the car, but there's a lot to digest when car shopping. I've seen the OEM parts list for the console but it would be nice to see step-by-step instructions before I go that route.

I saw in another thread where ECS Tuning sells a Euro Armrest version that bolts to the floor on each side where the seats both down....looks like a viable option possibly.

Thanks!
