Low beams have a range far far longer than 15ft.

You probably cannot even see the first 8-10ft in front of your car over the hood.

 

Soooo, I'm looking at my build sheet and I see that I have a piano black interior surface, a carbon black color line and a carbon black interior color. Does this mean I'm going to have a polar beige headliner?!?! Lord I hope not...

 

It's the anthracite headliner that makes the interior ceiling black. So, yes unfortunately it seems like you will have a beige ceiling.

 

Grey if the car is an S or ALL4. It's a bit better than the beige.

 

If you didn't order the anthracite, yes, you'll get beige. See where the car is in the build process. You might be able to get it changed if it hasn't entered production.

I don't understand why the MA's don't point this issue out. The online build tool doesn't really show the headliner, just a tiny corner of the A Pillar, and it is easy to miss.

 

Did that get changed for 2014? The online configurator still shows a beige A pillar for the S and All4, and I know that was the case for 2013. And you can still change to the anthracite for the same $250.

 

I think the light grey ended across all models in 2010 when they introduced the beige with the 2011s.

 

So I just checked my build sheets(late 11/2013) and vehicle(drove off lot on 1/8/2014). There is no anthracite mentioned but the pillars and headliner seem to have defaulted to a light grey. Am I missing something?

 

We think the our dark headliner makes the interior look so much richer if you have a dark color interior. The offset is that it makes it feel smaller. But we think the price is a typical BMW option price ripoff. Why $250? Isn't it the same material, just a different color? And it's not like they don't have them at the factory ready to go as I think someone said it's standard in Europe.

Also, unless i missed it, surprised no one mentioned the dark headlight lenses given the (relatively low) price.

 

How sure are you about this??? I would REALLY love if someone could confirm or deny this. I'm kinda freaking out about the beige and the dealer is telling me nothing can be done because the car is already in transit. I would MUCH rather prefer grey. I'm expecting a CMS in all black...

I just ordered my R61 last month and I had to specifically choose the anthracite headliner option. Otherwise the headliner would be the tan color. The tan is only really noticeable from the inside, if you tint your windows its not a big deal. Plus it will make the inside of your car seem more spacious and maybe less hot when the sun is beaming down on it.

On another note, if your CMS is on the boat, we are probably boat buddies!

 

Looks like on the configurator it's always beige unless you pay the $250 for anthracite.

 

The headlight lenses aren't dark. It's the inside chrome padt that is painted black instead. Also, the headliner is either anthracite (black) or beige. There is no grey headliner in the Countryman.

 

Not seeing a lot of answers here. So mine is a 2014 R60 S ordered late 2013. Definitely grey up there. I'll take pictures if anyone needs to see it.

As to what is arriving on your specific vehicle, I think your MA or the toll free ask-mini should be able to give you a definitive answer, but if it's underway unless you want to pay the dealer a fee to change it out, you're going to be stuck with whatever shows up.

How much longer is your wait till it arrives?

 

I'm so curious now because mine is a 2014 and, who knows, maybe the headliner IS going to be grey! I'm hoping so. I could call MA but I don't have a VIN# or anything like that yet. See, I didn't order mine. I bought one from a dealership, who did a search, and found one with 98% of what I was looking for in a CMS. So, basically, they bought the car from the dealership it was originally going to, re-routed it while in transit and will now be coming my way. We put our deposit down last weekend and said we would have the car in February to take advantage of the current monthly incentives program that MINI was offering. Spoke to my salesman yesterday and still don't have a date yet.

 

The last time MINI used light gray for the headliner was in 2010, prior to the 2011 facelift. The cars made after that had the beige headliners. My 2010 R56 had a gray headliner and when I would take it in for service, the 2011+ loaners all had beige ones. My non-S Countryman has the beige headliner and so does my brother's S. There are two possibilities for them: the standard beige or the optional anthracite (black).

 

Pretty sure my wife's 2014 Countryman S has pale grey, not beige, pillars and headliner. But I can't run check, as she is currently in another state.

(Build date was sometime in October 2013; we bought it in mid-December, pretty much buying it as it off the truck!)

 

Ok had words with the expert. Seems to be a point of perception. I call it Grey, gf says I'm blind it's actually beige. Either way I don't think it looks bad next to the anthracite.

Wow, I added the anthracite headliner as an afterthought at the last minute. I think it should be pointed out more obviously by the dealer. My dealer never mentioned it, but I had ordered it on my 2006 and happened to remember it.

 

To each his own, but to be honest, how much time do you spend looking at the headliner? I had the stock (grey) headliner in the Clubman, because 1) no way was I paying for the anthracite, and 2) I didn't want to make the inside of the car dark). When I broke a sun visor, I had to go look to see what color it was to shop for a replacement.

If you don't have the sunroof, maybe it's more obvious, but with the sunroof, there's enough light in the car, the headliner is out of your field of view, and it's only a few sq. ft. of surface. You'll forget it's there.

 

To me it's not the headliner fabric itself, but the A pillars in my field of view all the time. I don't mind grey, and the pale grayish beige in the Countryman is inoffensive, but the tan-beige in the non-S hatch and clubman drives me crazy. It's the least attractive color in the world. I don't understand how it became so common.

We have the anthracite headliner, and agree that it makes the interior look richer but smaller. We don't think it makes the interior look too dark, but then again, we have the sunroof. If we did not have sunroof, we might feel differently. We have seen few Countryman that have the anthracite. We assume the reason for that is the cost.

The other option that we have that you don't see a lot of is the black headlamps. We like the look, but of course that's a matter of individial taste.

 

I think a lot of options you don't see too many of is because dealers don't order them, and most MINIs sold are off the lot, not custom. I rarely see one with Xenons. I've been to the dealer and if 1 in 10 has Xenons on the lot, that is surprising.

I have a friend with a CMS and she wanted Xenons, but didn't want to wait 3 months for a car, so just got what was on the lot, as most do. People are impatient.

 

so true! My wife got every option available when she ordered her R60 JCW, including Nav and Mini Connected. it's a great integrated package and works really well with her iPhone 4. took 8 weeks from order to delivery. both of ours have the anthricite headliner and we definitely prefer the look.

I just bought my R56 JCW before they are all gone, and of course, had to get one off a lot, but I got so lucky. It had exactly what i wanted. I agree about having the big speedo not modified by the Nav screen. Since it's the last year of that dinner plate speedo on the hardtops, I wanted to make sure I got it that way.

Had Xenons, H/K upgrade and bluetooth/iPod integration, and Sirius. So I got handsfree bluetooth, iPod control, sat radio and the upgraded sound system, but w/o the center screen required with Mini Connected, so I am very happy.
