Rotten Egg Smell from Exhaust

I have a rotten egg odor coming from my exhaust. It is usually after driving a little while, and more noticeable after hard driving. From what I understand, this could be one of 2 things: 1) bad gas with high sulphur content, or 2) a failing catalytic converter.

My car is the S All 4 with 11,000 miles on it.

Anyone have similar issues? If it is the cat, is that caused by my engine running too rich with excess fuel being burned in the cat?

It's more likely option 2, although a cat can be stinky under hard driving without failing. If you notice that it stinks under normal driving, that's trouble.

pidge, i have the same thing going on, but only under hard driving. I thought it was maybe the JB, but after having a loaner car with no JB and smelling the same thing out of a brand new car with less than 10K on it, i figured it to be normal.

Usually only notice it when the window is down and i'm really really "on it".

Yes I notice it most when I drive aggressively. Don't know if the JB affects the AF ratio whereas it makes the car run rich to account for the smell.

I'll have to keep my nostrils open to see if it keeps up and in normal driving. At least I have CEL and I ran Dash Command and I get no codes.

What grade of fuel do you use on the car? I go 93 Octane always.

You might want to read this article on sulfur smells from the CAT: Seems that things like a defective fuel injector, oxygen sensor or pressure regulator will allow excessive unburned fuel to enter the cat and result in the sulfur smell. Sounds like that's something that would be made worse by hard driving.

My 2012 S has had the smell when I drive hard from day one. I also do notice that my car will "stumble" at times when accelorating. After reading the article about CAT I'm kind of nervous. I just got my oil changed today with no reported issues other than one tire that has worn weird and needs to be replaced (that's a whole different Oprah). Did anybody have luck with getting this issue resolved?
