Ordering 2014 CM - can't decide on color/design

2 Attachment(s)
Greetings all!

I hope to join the CM family within the next month or two. I'll be ordering one online through my local dealer- it's going to be a base model with some extra features (alarm system- etc.) to fit within my budget. However, I cannot settle on a color/stripe theme. I *think* I really like this one, but I can't tell if it's too busy/chaotic with the alternating and contrasting colors. Does anyone have a similar color/style, and do you like it? What is a color/style that you *wish* you had gone with?

I'm scared that I like the design on paper, but when it actually rolls into my driveway, I'll be sorry.

Thanks so much- pictures attached. :)

I don't think I've seen one like it, so that's a plus! Always good to be unique. Since the stripes probably won't be applied until the CM gets to the dealer (right before you take delivery), you could not order any stripes then add as you go.

Good luck with the decisions! I fretted for months over my color choice before finally ordering last month.

Might want to clarify with your MA on the Countryman badging on the hatch as far as cutting the stripes

I was just thinking about that (saw a thread on here regarding the new badging). I'm definitely going to ask him about it. Traditionally, is there something they can do about the cutting of the stripes when something new is introduced like this?

I have a Surf Blue with the same stripe design you are considering. I love it :)

Looks great! By the way, there's no such thing as a "base" unless you mean ANY MINI with no options. They are either S or non-S (or One or D in other markets).

Sorry, not familiar with the terminology just yet. I meant a Mini Cooper Countryman, non-S, with no packages/features added.

Whoa, that is quite awesome looking! How'd you get the blue stripes? Are they custom decals or did you order it like that? It's really stunning, I love it. :)

That's all semantics really since the non-S is really the base.

I can't say from experience as I didn't opt for the sport stripes but my car came with the badging. It sounds like from the "Labeled" thread that people have had success with getting the dealer to remove the badging and then putting the stripes on

IMHO...the viper stripes on the roof and boot look nice...but I've never been a fan of the "pitch-fork" bonnet stripe. My eye favors a true viper stripe on the bonnet.

If I was configuring, I'd take delivery without the stripe and use WD-40/dental floss to remove the boot "Countryman" labeling. Then I'd seek out aftermarket viper stripes (ours from MINI-Graphics in the UK) and have a local graphics installer do the stripes.

It's only my opinion, and everyone sees things differently...

Thanks!! The stripe job was custom, by Vinyl Styles in Bay Area, CA. They had a blue which is a close match. Took a few hours but I hung around to see it come alive! One other thing to note - the roof stripes can be seen through the moonroof, and since mine are blue, they look pretty cool from the inside too :)

chanclor Jul 9, 2013 05:25 PM

They do not have to cut the stripes on the boot because of the Countryman labeling. I just had viper stripes added to my Paceman at the dealer and they did a great job removing the badges and putting them back on top of the stripes. If you can't decide on the stripes - you can always have them added later at the dealer or another shop. You will have approx 2 months to think about it after you order! You will also have tons more choices of what kind of design, colors, etc.

The only thing I regret not getting options wise is the Xenon lights and black housings. If you think you want those, they are much cheaper if you order from the factory than adding them later.

No LEDs as far as I'm aware (you may be thinking about the next gen Cooper, which is supposed to get LEDs).

I've read that a lot of other people have said that exact same thing, so I was sure to add the Xenon lights (I do love the black housing too). Thanks so much! :)

Not getting the xenon is my only regret!

MIminiclubman Jul 9, 2013 06:06 PM

Black adaptive xenon.

+1, I agree with both ideas. we think we are going to want stripes on ours but chose to order w/o then decide afterwards. I don't like the Mini bonnet stripes at all, or the sport stripes. I have seen the Viper stripes on a couple of CM's, and they look fantastic.

Z06_Pilot Jul 10, 2013 10:51 AM

just my opinion here, and nowadays I am probably in the minority, but I am not a fan of black wheels at all, particularly on a black car. It seems the trend today is for wheels to blend into the the car. I'm probably old school, but to me wheels are a major design element of a car and is the first thing I see and notice on a car. They should stand out and be noticed as a separate design element.

i assume the op has seen black wheels on a CM in person or has experience with them to ensure they like the look?

And I certainly join the Xenon light contingent on the thread. Expensive for sure but so well worth it....after having them on a couple of my other cars, I can't ever go back to halogen again...

Indeed so! For some reason, I feel the same way you do about the generic silver-ish grey wheels that come with most cars. In my opinion, the black wheels (especially on a black car) look a bit more uniform and nice. The theme I'm going with in my design is black and white contrasts and unforunately, the silvery-grey things that automatically come with the car off-set it a bit.

The black (glossy not the matte anthracite ones) complete the the look of my CM to me. She's red with black roof and mirror caps. The glossy black matches the glossy black roof and mirrors. I also picked the black headlight housings and piano black interior and anthracite headliner. Very sharp in my opinion and I get a lot of compliments on her which is a bonus. :)

Does anyone know where you can find ordering or build-your-own information on a 2014?

You are not alone. When we started shopping for our Countryman, we wanted the 18" silver wheels. My wife said that cars with the flat black wheels look like they are running spare tires.

Having said that, the only lightly used '12 Countryman vehicles that we found with all the options we wanted had the black or anthracite wheels. So, we now have a '12 Countryman All 4 with the 17" glossy black wheels.

Best bet is your local dealer...who knows when MINI USA will be updating the website.

There weren't a significant amount of changes to the 2014 CMs, just some reorganization of the packages (see here: http://www.motoringfile.com/2013/06/...-2014-pricing/ ) and a uptick of $100 in the base price. Good luck!
