MIght have to Re-Think these RF's
 

Well up until today I was kinda digging the runflats on the car. But!!!!! Today I was running hard on a sloping overpass (maybe going 65+), M was hugging the the yellow line nice and tight and all of a sudden I hit an uneven joint on the overpass.
The car hopped straight up in the air, the steering wheels jumped out of my hand and the car slide to the right. Luckily no other cars were on the overpass next to me.
Needless to say I partially wet myself. Might have to think long and hard about this. Not a good feeling.

Did you clean up the seat and change your underwear? LMAO Yes RF's suck. Get a good set of NRF's and you will be very happy.

I have noticed the same thing with these stupid runflats. I was going a bit hot into a corner with a lot of patched pot holes and the car became very unstable. I can't wait till I can ditch these stupid run flats!

Yes. The RF's tend to float to the right as you go over irregularities. I hated mine and after 27,000 I was able to convince my dealer to allow me to install regular tires. There is a restriction on leased Minis when they come with originally equipped RF tires. I installed some Michelein Primacy MXM4 18" tires and the difference was remarkable. These are a 60,000 mile tire and when I have to turn in the car after its 36 month lease in January, I am going to mandate they deliver the car with this same tire. I will even go so far to saying they can keep the new run flats on the newly ordered car and replace them with my existing tires from the 2011.

I have a spot in my daily commute that does that to me. Helps if I push the sport button.

Wow that happened to me twice today, the same kind of spot, filled in pot holes on a curve. I am new to the car so I didn't know what to think . My husband is anti-run flats he almost didn't let me get my new Countryman . Now I am glad the Justa we bought my daughter has regular tires on it.

Before the CM my wife and I shared a r50 with the 15 inch rims and non run flats. That car was great over irregularities, just as well as my first generation TSX. I don't know what tires I want in the near future, either the Michelins or the Conti DWS. With BMW and MINI being sport driving oriented, why do they have such an affection for these tires? I understand they want to shead weight but 30 lbs for a spare is well worth it.

There is an article on page 22 of the May edition of car and driver magazine that discusses the differences between runflat and regular tires. Bridgestone claims that at least one of their newer runflat tires is only 5 percent stiffer versus the non rft version.

As runflat technology continues to progress, hopefully the issue of ride quality will become a non issue.

And in the meanwhile, BMW and MINI are pushing them and we're stuck with all the negative issues of the current technology. :mad:
