Wife's '12 CMS in for cam shaft timing valve replacement

Second time in several months had the check engine light and limp mode. Car is 5 months old with 9K miles. Hope isn't a systemic issue. Others had this problem ?

Wow, really? Cam shaft and timing valve replacement on a car with that low of mileage is insane. Did they say how that could happen??

Pick it up at the end of the week,

hopefully dealer will explain

Keep us updated, I would love to hear how a brand new vehicle could experience that under today's QA and manufacturing standards.

My '11 MCS left me sitting last November. Dealer had to replace the valvetronic actuator motor. Any chance that's the same issue you're having? My car had something like 3000 miles on it at the time.

I had to take mine in last week for a "limp mode" warning. It turned out to be a fault with the valvetronic system. 2400 miles! The issues that these cars are having is starting to border on ridiculous!!

Not really.. One thing to note. There are not a ton of these cars made. I think 2011 was 4500 and 2012 is 5500 expected? That means even if there were 1% having problems, 55 cars would be affected. Basically what Im saying is this car is not massed produced like the ford explorer where they make 250k cars..

Don't know if that helps, but honestly its not a lot of problems according to at least the dealer network and the people that come on here. Just sucks to be the person that has the problems!

Guess I am one of 55 cars, so far 3 tows in 2-overheating, one for fuel pump, the others service call for windows not going down all the way, ( replace both motors ). Still both windows acting up.

I disagree, this seems like a lot of problems...

When you consider that this engine has been in use since 2007 in the Mini this is an unacceptable quality issue. If my wife didn't love the damn car I would dump it for a GTI.

The gasoline engines on 2011+ model year Minis are new from the head up, using the Valvetronic system. Only the block is common to the 2007-2010 Minis. I think the part in question by the OP is in the Valvetronic system.

My fiancee's All4 lost a thermostat, a problem that I have seen pop up a lot on here. Sure, thermostats break--but within 5-10-15k miles? That's not right.

And I've seen more than one issue with the valvetronic motors (the 2011+ S models all have the valvetronic N18 while the current JCWs retain the N14 engine). When mine took a dump, the service tech said he had another one in the bay with exactly the same problem.

Stopped by the dealer today...

After 5 unanswered calls and no progress. Turns out they don't have enough techs to work on their cars. WTF I thought this was a Mini dealer not a Kia. So much for customer service.

Do you know the parent company for the dealership (e.g., Autonation, Penske, ...)?
