Paint black trim?

I found a fellow Mini owner in the Uk with white trim and it helped me decide to see if I can do it to my CMS. I'm very familiar with multi-colored vehicles.

Anyone have ideas of painting the textured trim? I've yet to ask this owner if he replaced the trim or painted it. If replacement is the only option then where could I get white trim?

Thanks

Back in the R53 days, painting the trim was a really cool thing to do. In researching it, I found that the best approach is to take off the black trim, sand it smooth, then prime, paint and clear coat. I'd check with a good body shop in your area as this mod is not exclusive to MINI owners.

Wow! Not as easy as I figured. Thanks. I guess my plan is to find some trim on ebay or wherever and experiment. Maybe that plastic paint or even vinyl. I'll also check around body shops. The Mini dealer's paint partner says it's not really possible what with the textured plastic.

Thanks

That's why it is sanded: to remove the texture. Check with some body shops that don't just repair, but also install/paint body mods. They should be familiar with the process and can give you a good estimate of the cost.

BTW - I recently talked with a local MINI owner that had this done back in 2005. It cost him $850 six years ago but his MINI still looks superb today!
