So... Not changing the mic location tonight because the cope overhead console looks nothing like in the video. I have no idea where the mic is in a coupe. :-/

Got this taken care of at the dealer. My Board of Directors (wife) said my voice was much clearer over bluetooth when I called.

Ann -- I'm tracking this down. If this comes from MINI (and not the dealer's "imagination"), then it stands to reason that UK MINIs would have the microphone installed on the left side, correct?

I'll post what I hear from my UK sources on MINI2.

It makes sense that the microphone initial position would be on the right in the UK, as that's the side occupied by the driver there.

Agreed. But if MINI claims that the microphone performs better on the "passenger" side, then the UK would have it mounted on the passenger side (left). I have a sense Ann's dealer was "misinformed". Or, looked at it from another perspective, why have two possible locations? Hmmmm...

See, that's the thing... I have a feeling that IF that info came from Mini, it probably applies only to the right-had drive cars, and maybe they didn't update it for the US market? Or maybe that's my dealership's policy or something. Who knows. It definitely makes sense that the mic would be better positioned on the right side for the UK.

Darn Mini and their Anglo-centric ideas on microphone placement!

Guys and gals...stop obsessing over this!
The mic works fine from the right side of the overhead, even for LHD cars.

It just sounds unbelievably, way better if you move it to your side of the car.

An interesting update...

I received a message from a contact in the UK. His microphone is mounted on the LEFT side of the upper console! So it appears that MINI's "forbidden" microphone move may have indeed been broadcast from the Mother Ship.

I don't care, though. I'm keeping mine of the left!
