Ordered Countryman yesterday, new member, color conflict

Hi everyone, I just joined this site last night but I've been reading the threads for a while. They really helped me make my decision to order the CM, so major thanks to everyone that posted pictures!

I ordered my CM yesterday... base model with cosmic blue exterior and white roof. The only extra things I added were automatic transmission and the flat-load floor. There were so many things I wanted to add, but I could not afford any extra bells and whistles on this go-around :(

I keep wavering on my color choice, and wonder if I should change it while I still can. I have always loved dark blue, but I feel cosmic blue may be a little too dark. I haven't seen it in person, but I've looked at numerous pictures.. it looks fabulous in some lighting, and almost looks black in other lighting. I really love the silver exterior and white roof combo... I have only seen about 5 pictures so I gathered it's a very rare combo, but I just don't feel it's very "MINI-like." On the other hand, I think the silver/white roof looks more feminine..

Help! Any thoughts?

All depends on how much work you want to put into keeping it looking good.
I would suspect you would be more happy with the looks of the CB, but the trade off is more time cleaning. It will show much more dirt than the Silver to be sure. The CM rear end is also a huge dust, dirt magnet. It gets dirty real quick. If I lived in a place with a good amount of rain, I would opt for Grey or Silver, but I love the look of the CM in Black or Cosmic.

Those are very good points. I'm not too worried about the time of cleaning, but it would be nice to have the Silver for those really busy weeks where I'm pressed for time.

What's the general consensus about Cosmic Blue?

Not sure where you are, but CM colors must be seen in person. Most all of them are a little odd and the pictures just don't do them justice.

Not going to push you in any direction - every color has its champions and critics. All colors look MINI when you put them on a MINI and all colors are a little swishy when the driver is a little swishy. Just pick one and enjoy.

Sealy - Who's not going to say how that relates to my Pure Orange Zaftig

I'm certainly not going to discourage your excellent color choice. The darker wheel colors offered look cleaner longer. Why not Cosmic Blue all the way?

Whatever you do thought it will be great and you'll enjoy every mile.

Sealy- I agree with you about seeing the colors in person and I really wish I could, but none of the dealerships around here have the Cosmic Blue. I saw this Youtube video of a Cosmic Blue CM with a White roof, and it looked amazing when the sun was sparkling on it.. after seeing that video, I was positive I wanted the Cosmic Blue. Then, after I had already ordered my CM, I saw some pictures of the Cosmic Blue that didn't impress me as much. You're so right in that the colors are "swishy." Unfortunately, I'm afraid I will have to make a decision without seeing the Cosmic Blue since I already put my order in :-(

Miniblue2- I personally love the White roof and knew I wanted a White roof before I saw the exterior color swatches. I've seen pictures of the all-Cosmic Blue CM, however, and it does look very nice :-)

My dealer actually had all colors in stock. I went with Cosmic Blue, White Top, Light Coffee Interior. Looks like a Polo Ad on wheels.

I also ordered the cosmic blue/white roof without having seen it in person. I'm not really worried about it being too dark, but rather that it might be a bit purple. I've seen a few pictures where it looked purple, but it looks like the pictures were manipulated to bring out the reflections in the paint.

My last two cars have been gray and they were really easy to take care of. I would have gotten the royal gray, but it has too much of a brown tint to it for my taste.

Do any of the cosmic blue owners out there see any purplish tints to the cosmic blue paint?

I have seen cosmic blue with both black and white top. With black top, the car looks pretty dark. The blue almost looks like black unless it is direct sunshine. With white top, the car stands out more.

I was going to buy cosmic blue with white top but my dealer doesn't have the car with that color in stock and the only choice I had is cosmic blue/black top and sliver/silver top. We eventually bought the sliver/silver top.

As previous poster said, you couldn't go wrong with both choice.

I have Cosmic Blue/Black and black rims. I love how the black roof blends with the black around on the side turn signals, wheel wells and the black rims. The sports stripes help too.

Here is my baby.

Second the recommendation to see colors in person. I was planning on ordering the Royal Grey unseen but luckily did see it in person and there was too much brown to it for me. I liked the Cosmic blue. Yes it is kind of dark but it is a very nice deep blue.

I had also planned on originally ordering the Royal Gray, but did not care for it in person... too brown, like you said

Did your dealer have the color samples to view? It's not the best solution but it gives you an idea of the color and can take the sample outside to look in the sun.

Yeah I looked at the color sample. I've also looked at every video and picture I could find, so I think I have a pretty good idea of what it looks like. It's pretty much come down to the personal decision of wanting a lighter or darker car.

We got Cosmic Blue all the way around with Black JCW wheels - love it!

Lighter worked for me. Once i saw the first press photos for the CM(in Light White) i knew that would be our choice. But I will tell you that CB was our second choice. Really like the deep blue color, but we looked at one with CB top as well, and the exterior chrome package and it looked sweet! Ironic as i have pretty muched "blacked" out almost all the chrome elements of my CM! Go with your gut, but there really is noe Cm color combo out there that doesn't match the MINI Mystique!(Now I say that not having seen any of the "yellow" versions yet)

Smile Colors Colors Colors

Before deciding on our color choice, my wife and I travelled to other MINI Dealers to check out the colors that we did not see, You absolutely have to do this. Colors looks so different in the direct sunlight for example. Royal Grey has a tint of green in it almost looks like a dark khaki. Cosmic blue looks black in the show room floor but get it out into the sunlight and it looks dark blue with a tinge of purple. Light coffee is a "light mocha brown with a tinge of purple) We did look at others including surf blue and true blue, they were not someithing that we liked.

You really should take a ride to another MINI Dealer just to see the colors upclose and personal. Good luck!!!!

mrluckypa -

!!so there is a tinge of purple in the cosmic blue!! Thanks for confirming that.

Man I would love to see the cosmic blue for myself, but Hawaii only has a single dealership and going to another dealership means flying 2500+ miles over the Pacific Ocean. I've seen most of the colors in person, but unfortunately no cosmic blue. Oh well, I'll be sticking with my choice since none of the other colors really do it for me.

Compared to my previous Clubman and my wifes Volvo V70 the CM is clean as a whistle.

As for colours the only one I don't like is Yellow, MINI should only sell this to circus clowns, it's the ugliest MINI colour ever, made even worse because people ordering it often go for a white roof and white wheels.

I think I've decided to change my order to the Crystal Silver exterior with White roof. I've at least seen the Crystal Silver in person and know that I like it. I will always wonder if I should have gone with Cosmic Blue, though.

CM51, how's the MINI dealership in Hawaii? I just got back from Hawaii 1 week ago.. was on O'ahu for 2 months. I might be moving up there in a few years, so I had been wondering about the MINI dealership there.

If you want to see the actual colors without travelling to the contiguous 48. Go to a dealer's web site like miniofmtlaurel.com. They have actual photographs of every vehicle in stock. good luck

Emlo711 - So far my MA has been great. Very responsive to my emails, nice and accommodating when I happen to show up in person. The sales manager also seems like a nice guy. However, because they're the only game in town they don't seem to budge very much on anything.

Dealership is located on Kapiolani blvd. between downtown and Ward Ave. so it's very convenient for those who work downtown like me. I don't have any experience with the service department, but I haven't heard anything bad about them. If they're anything like the sales department I expect them to be nice and generally accommodating, but stingy.

mrluckypa - Thanks for the tip.

Emlo711….Sorry to hear of your change of heart! Have the exact set-up you were thinking of. Cosmic Blue, White Roof & Chrome line exterior. I actually got the 17" Turbo Fans Wheels..by mistake…was not happy with the look but grows on you after a while. Did end up switching over to non R/Flats..to the 19" Nuespeed gunmetal wheels with continental tires. I actually think it brightens up the bottom half. As far as the metallic blue…I was always a beige / off white / light color car guy. As you, liked the Cosmic Blue in the samples and went with a change and ordered it. Dealership finally got one in the showroom a month or so later…and it looked Great…but it was not even outside yet and every smudge and fingerprint was visible…and to late to change the
order and glad I didn't. When it's clean or even detailed it's the best color out there..and when it's dirty with snow, slush, dirt…well it's not so nice. There's a great touch-less carwash right down the street from my business…$10 and it does a great job drying as well. Another 15-20 minutes to finish hand dry, door edges, wheels, even a tire shine and it's awesome look. I carry a California duster with me just for dusty days and bottle of Formula 113 Detail Bead spray if time allows for a quick detail over a clean car looks awesome and is not time consuming. Of course every 4-6 weeks it gets the full bath & wax treatment…much easier if you keep up with it. Not trying to talk you back into it as any car looks great taken care of…just not a reason not to go for the Cosmic Blue! Either way enjoy your Mini. Some pics in my gallery.

Flyer53, I just looked at your gallery... love your CM! It especially looks great with the gunmetal wheels. I've always been one to like the lighter cars too and wanted to make a change, but this time the Crystal Silver won out. I'll see if I made the right decision in 2 months!

CM51, I know where you're talking about. Thanks, that information is good to know.
