Has anyone changed from a 5sp to 6sp. trans. The dealer told me it is not a direct fit and would cost $$$ to install unless I could find an aftermaket kit.

 

The consensus from previous posts on this and other sites seems to be that while possible, it's not easy or cheap, and unfortunately the gear ratios on the MCS 6sp are not particularly suited to the naturally aspirated MC engine. I believe 1st gear is too high for the un-torquey Cooper. Sure would be nice, though, to have that extra gear. The 2007 Coopers will have a 6-speed, so I guess MINI thought it was a good idea, too.
