The car I ordered and the one they built for me don't match.

I ordered my MINI on Sept. 1, and am like a kid at Christmas imagining what it will be like when I get the car. Problem is, when I checked the miniusa site to track the vehicle, they have apparently built a car that doesn't match what I ordered. I'm waiting for a call from my salesman today, but in the meantime I've kinda lost the thrill of it all. What do I do if the dealer says everything's OK, and a month from now it's not? Then it will be too late to order an '06 with CVT.

The initial information about your order in the MINI Owners Lounge is occasionally wrong. Check with your salesperson. It should be corrected before your build date.

pancakex Sep 18, 2006 10:03 AM

Check with your salesperson ASAP. I ordered my MINI and was originally given the wrong production number, so I tracked someone else's car for a month until I called to ask why it was STILL showing up in the owner's lounge as red when it should have been black. Luckily I still HAD my own production slot, but you should find out quickly if you still do. Otherwise, you might want to tell them you're buying it from someone else because of their screw-up (a place that still has production slots for '06s left). Good luck!

If its just recently in your production info will be wrong, it took about 5days before mine showed up correctly.

This happened to use when we ordered our second MINI. For the first two weeks of the order the site indicated the wrong color and options. Our MA said that it was a generic "straw man" that is displayed until our ordered MINI was processed in the database. Just a few days later the build date was updated and the website indicated all the correct info. Still contact your MA to make sure so as to head off any other problems that are particular to your situation.

dealers claim cars for you and then switch their options. It is possible that this happened. my mini was bought a week after it was claimed according to the corporation.... Sometimes things I would add to it would not be showing up. Nothing was ever incorrect though. so dont take that as comfort

most important is to know the number status of the car. 111 and 112 mean that options can be changed. 150 is locked in. 112 status means better hurry/do it that very moment. 111 means you have a decent amount of time.

this is very true... my dealer had cars in 112 status last Thursday when I put my order in and my car is in production as of this morning....

good luck, hope it works out... be sure to let us know.

Also, call 866-ASK-MINI. They very often have the latest information, more then your MA.

Rontonio Sep 18, 2006 10:39 AM

El Jefe: Where do you find the status number. According to the miniusa site, my car is "Awaiting Transport". I'm still waiting to hear from my rep. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the replies.

Did you order a Mini with a CVT?

I kind of sounds like you did by your first post. that may cause some problems. I ordered mine with a CVT and then found out they are having a supply issue. So there may be plenty of time. I was told week 45 was the earliest for production.

Rontonio Sep 18, 2006 12:01 PM

[FONT=&quot]Yes the issue here is the CVT for 2006. Looking back on my order, I’m now wondering if the rep gave me the right production number. From the beginning I ordered xenons, sixteens, the auto dimming mirror, and the arm rest, none of which were slated in the car the supposedly built for me. I know they can change some of the accessories at the dealership after the fact, but they can’t do much about the wrong color roof and the wrong headlights.

The Owners' Lounge often does not reflect the correct configuration. I encountered this but when I called (866) Ask MINI the Build Sheet was correct.

Rontonio Sep 18, 2006 01:14 PM

Wow, you're getting close. Losing sleep at night, driving mountain roads? ASK mini had the wrong info, too.

agranger Sep 18, 2006 01:15 PM

My car started out as blue and took 3 days before it was switched to my spec on the OL.

I would call 866-ask-mini and make them confirm every detail and option that you ordered. My dealer mis-entered my roof color and it set me back 3-4 weeks. The information that ASK MINI has is the same information that the factory has and is the most up-to-date information that you can get to.

I wrote up my entire ordering process here, if it gives you any idea of the process and timeframe: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=58099

call 866 ask mini, give them the prod number. Ask them to verify your order.

Gromit801 Sep 18, 2006 02:50 PM

My MA told me right off, that what I ordered, and what will show in the Owners Lounge would differ.

MiniMaxx Sep 18, 2006 04:09 PM

Dealers are given production slots for their pre-specced cars. Thats how they have inventory. They have a number of production numbers already assigned to them with a pre specced MINI for each Prod. number. When a customer specs his MINI with the dealer, they take one of the pre-specced slots and change the specs to fit your order. When you put your order in, it takes several days for the owners lounge to update to show your specs. Until then, the OL will show the car the dealer would have gotten if no one's order would have taken its place. Dont worry, I called when my CR/B order showed up as a RG/B:eek2: . Many go through the same panic ordeal the first day or few but then your order shows up in the OL and call their MA with the same aieeeeee! Then you can go about worrying about some other aspect of your MINI delivery process. Check the "Track your MINI" sticky at the top of 1st Gear.

Willbesurfing Sep 18, 2006 04:20 PM

Mini, I couldn't have said it better.

creseida Sep 18, 2006 06:20 PM

I'm surprised your MA didn't mention this to you when you ordered. Mine said that when I first look it up, it won't be right, probably not even close. He was right, as when I first looked, my order was for a BRG with white roof non-S. About a week later my order was for a Space Blue JCW as requested.

It was all good.

agranger Sep 18, 2006 06:27 PM

Yep... My MA warned me that it would show up as the wrong color for a few days as well. 3 days later it flipped to the right spec (but the OL didn't show the roof color and that's what caught me!)

Rontonio Sep 19, 2006 04:23 PM

OK. The broker, a friend of mine, talked to the sales rep today. The rep claims there was some mistake made at MINI, and he reordered the car – no other explanation. I am p%&&#d to put it mildly. I had originally ordered on Sept. 4. Now I start all over again. I really feel like canceling the order and going somewhere else. Assael MINI is the dealer.

MiniMaxx Sep 19, 2006 04:36 PM

Hang in there. That will only build more delay in. Believe me; you'll forget all about this hassle once you get your car.

Tha only advantage you have is that since Assael sells a lot fewer MINIs you'll probably have a quick production date. You just have to deal with their mark-up. The are actually the closest dealer to me but I can't believe they still want to mark up their cars when I was able to go right over the Universal MINI and order what I wanted with no dealer mark up. If you do end up changing dealers go over to Universal and ask for Tim. He was my MA and was nice to deal with and didn't try any pressure tactics on me.

Lyrebard Sep 20, 2006 05:29 AM

Something else you might want to look into is whether there's a car already built (ordered by a dealer, rather than a customer) that matches the specs you want. Often there will be a car in production, waiting to get on a boat at Southampton, on a boat, or at a VDC that has what you're looking for and a MA can get the car re-routed to their dealership by trading one of their cars for it.

When I was looking to get my MINI, the first thing my MA (at Westchester MINI in NY) did was to look around for a car that matched my specs so I wouldn't have to wait as long as I would if I'd ordered one. Didn't work for me because there weren't many out there in the color I wanted, but it might be something for you to look into. And you could certainly do that through Universal--if they find the car you're interested in, then you won't have to pay the other dealership's mark-up.

mine was wrong for 3 weeks and then it changed.
