On one of the earlier support group posts (I think it was week 34 or 36), they were talking about the "mind meld" email from Mini. I think it was to program the features (auto door lock, daytime running lights, etc.) of your car. Have any of you received anything like this? I haven't yet....

I haven't yet either....was wondering if MA would discuss this with me. It's ineresting how some have gotten this and haven't...

fingers crossed YET again...

Homer...you cleaned your garage out yet? I haven't. Hubby says every weekend..'we need to clean so you have a place to park the Mini'. Honey...there'd be plenty of room if you'd sell that HOSS of a vehicle...the Tahoe.

Aggie - several more boxes emptied last weekend, but it's like bailing out the Titanic with a teaspoon We have most of a single parking space emptied, but Mrs has a new car that she wants to fit in also....

Homer/Aggie - Have you guys thought about how you'll be programing the door locks? I think I like the idea of the doors locking when the car reaches 10 mph, but I'm not sure about the automatic locking after stopping. I worry about the doors locking with the keys inside. I've not received anything from Mini on this either.

auto door anything is lame. If you cant remember to lock your doors, you should be barred from driving a vehicle on public roads. I requested that all auto locking features and unlocking features be completely off. You can lock your keys in the car, it is possible.

People buy a stick shift car and yet demand auto locking doors at 10mph and after the car is turned off, etc etc! isnt that a bit silly? I could see if you dont like cars and want every convenience possible, but a mini owner is an involved owner.

just my 2 cents before i go for a walk.

I think the Auto-Relock feature gets a bad rap...

I've had this feature activated on every single BMW I've ever had and it will NOT lock you out of your car. The trigger-mechanism is whether or not you pull open the door handle.

In other words, let's say you exit your vehicle and then lock the doors using the button on the key. Then you are walking away from the car and for whatever reason inadvertantly hit the unlock button. If you do not pull open a door handle within approximately 90, the door locks will automatically relock themselves. If the feature is NOT activated then you'd be walking away from a car that will remain unlocked.

As for Auto-Lock once you drive off and hit X mph...I'm a fan too!

I'm not a big fan of the auto door locks. My current suv doors lock as soon as I put it in gear, which means that if I back out of the garage (back when it would fit in the garage) and a passenger wants to get in, I have to remember to unlock the doors. I know it is a minor annoyance, but I prefer to lock my own doors while underway, if at all. I read somewhere that if the doors are locked and you (or co-pilot) pull the door handle, this unlocks the doors. Then you pull the handle again to open the door. This doesn't sound like a good idea to me.... I do like the safety feature about the 90 second delay mentioned above. I have that now and it is a good feature

I can't wait to see what other options are on the list! I hear that they even program your radio pushbuttons for you

Cool Beans, thanx muchly for the explanation. Sometimes I have CRS and walk away from the Volvo leaving the doors unlocked. I recently had to replace the after market alarm sys. The old one would lock the doors when I turned on the ignition and unlock when I turned it off. This was a handy feature. The replacement system doesn't have this capability. I really miss it.

Mini's (well, really BMW's) double-pull feature to unlock and get out is brilliant! And it's fun to make your passengers feel like a fool when they can't figure out why they aren't being let out on the first try.

I've got a question. Several of you have pictures of the cartoon Mini with the eyes in the windshield in your signature. Where did you get them? I need to distract myself from the frustrating fact that my Mini has just entered it's THIRD week of sitting at the Southampton dock waiting to be loaded on a ship. It was completed on 9/13 and according to the OL system, auto voice & humans at ASK-MINI, and my Dealership MA it hasn't yet been loaded on a boat. Yeah-he-ho-haa, I'm just jolly-well thrilled about that.

Week 37'er from last year, thought I'd drop in to re-live a little of the experience. Mine was done 9/18, left Southampton 9/21. Once off the boat it took about 2 days at the VDC, then 3 days to get to my dealer in Minnesota. Then it waited there until 11/5 because they shipped it without my silver U stripe and those were unavailable in the parts ordering system until then end of October. Enjoy the next few weeks, there's nothing like the first time you see your baby at the dealer.

Yeah, I can see how that type of system would be annoying. Luckily the Auto-Lock feature is not like that on the MINI.

Yes, double-pull is a standard feature. According to the MINIusa.com site, this feature can be defeated if you do not like it.

I'm in the same boat you are...no pun intended ASK-MINI told me it can take up to 7 days to wait for a boat assignment. Ummmm, car was finished on the 14th...today is the 28th

Auto Door Locks

I've decided to go with the automatic door locks. I feel much more secure traveling with the doors locked and leaving the car knowing it will lock itself if I forget. I was mugged in broad daylight several years ago and have been on alert ever since. I keep my doors locked and carry pepper mace where ever I go. Also carry jumper cables, spare tire and after market lug wrench. Have never had to use any of them, but I'm prepared for the worst. Surely hope the run flats never let me down.

Hi Wylie,

i ordered from Moritz just a day before you and my mini finished 3 days after yours and it's been sitting at the dock since (as well)!!! i called my MA and he said that they'll get a better idea of where my baby is when she gets loaded onto a vessel ...this is so frustrating!!! we're definitely in the same situation...deep inside me is hoping that my mini is on some ship and that the record didn't get updated and one day *poof* it's here in arlington...

Hey Sissy!

I have no clue on the options one can set up but I'm with you on the auto lock. WOW! Mugged? EEK! Glad you are okay...I chuckled at Jefe's response above at your post. I in NO WAY consider us less of Mini lovers because we are choosing safety...It's an estrogen thing, we always think of safety.

Have you gotten something already about the setting??? What else must we decide???

I still can't believe how close it's getting!!!! Our arrival date!!!

Are you or anyone else here getting the clear bra?

Programmable Options

Aggie,

Someone from McKinney, TX, posted the following back in January 2005.

http://www.bergin.us/MINI_Programmable_options.xls
http://www.bergin.us/MINI_Programmable_options.pdf

It has the options listed in both an Excel file as well as pdf. I saved the pdf file on the desktop on my PC at home.

My Ship Has Come In

Breaking News! The Franconia has landed.

http://www.port-of-charleston.com/vessel_schedule.asp

According to this link, she arrived at the Charleston dock around 9 o'clock this morning. My MA told me Flo would be on this ship and would arrive today. I don't know if I'm going to be able to contain myself during the next week to ten days till Flo arrives in Arlington. Surely hope all of your babies come in soon.

undine has landed but the sailwx site didnt have it tracked for the last 2 days so no telling how long it has been in port now. If i do the math right i got into port yesterday which would put it a day ahead of schedule. So that means my car is at least on usa soil now....

Homer, you best get in hi-gear cleaning out the garage. It won't be long now.
