Ultimate Irony...At least my wife's happy
My wife had stated how cute those MINI's are about 3 months ago. For fun one night we test drove one. I was immediatley sold. Two weeks later I was selling my Dodge RAM 4x4 and ordering a new MCS for myself. I have been faithfully tracking it's arrival for the last two months.
Not one week before it arrives, we were on the lake (wakeboarding) when an accident happened, a boat propeller hit my right calf. (severing the nerve that controls my foot). It has since been surgically reattached, but may take a year and a half to regain feeling and control, and I am in a cast from toe to upper thigh. (I feel very fortunate, as it could have been much worse) So now it's here and of course I couldn't drive it, but my wife can and she love's it. I guess I'll be driving her automatic Tahoe for practice, until I can handle a clutch. Any one have any advise on driving a manual trany with a cast/brace on your right foot? Here is a picture of MAXX (that's his name) https://www.northamericanmotoring.co..._30_05-med.JPG |
So sorry to hear about your accident   Work on it and it will get better than it is now
Great looking MCS, congrats on getting it. Earl |
Only tip I have...
is to do the physical therapy long after you think you don't need it! I had a MC accident that kept me in a wheel chair for 9 months! We guys tend to stop the PT when we think we're "good enough".
For driving, I guess you'll have a choffure for a bit! Matt |
First of all...WOW, so glad you are okay, man!!!!
Second...at least you have a cute chauffer. Third.....hmmm, watch out! This could get nasty.:eek2: Let's review...the wife thought MINI's were cute leading to a test-drive. The wife now loves driving "your" MCS. She'll be doing the motoring for the next several months at least.:sly: So, do you think you might need another MINI??? Or more to the point...do you think she'll be able to give it up??? Ironic....yes. Dangerous....definitely. |
thanks
thanks for the encouragement!.
We may end up a two MINI family at some point. Only thing is we have 3 kids as well. |
Sorry about that man, becareful with the wife motoring in the MCS, that might lead you guys to another visit to the showroom floor:lol:

Three words for you: left foot braking.
Sorry about your accident, glad it wasn't worse. As mentioned above, do the physical therapy and take the good drugs. |
Welcome to ClubMini....
Sorry to hear about the accident. Do the PT stuff when the casts comes. Also find a good Licensed Massage Therapist. I have had an issue with a shoulder of mine for some years, she thus far is keeping me from surgery..... '02, EB/W, 17" SSR-GT1, 99K |
I know this is no consilation, but at least you get to ride in it. I'm in Iraq and my wife just picked up our Mini back in Germany. She's spent the last week bragging about how much fun she's having.

left foot braking
[QUOTE=SpunkytheTuna]Three words for you: left foot braking.
QUOTE] Can you eleaborate on the left foot braking. i won't have control over my right foot for a while, but it will be in a brace to keep it stiff. How will I clutch and brake at the same time with my left foot? |
Sorry to hear that you've been hurt. Sounds like a nasty injury. PT worked wonders for me, in fact, my back seemed better after I was all done, than before the accident.
Now, as a female "soon to be" MSC owner, I can tell you that you might as well order another for yourself. I don't think it's going to be that easy to pry it outta her hands. |
your right!

...and if your there why I think your there (serving your country).... THANKS!!! |
That's a beautiful car. And you and Maxx can still be together, just....in a different way. Get well soon!
|
Congratulations on the MINI, good luck with your leg, and start thinking about all the benefits of having a second MINI.
Since we add the second MINI in our house our arguments have decresed a great deal and we smile more .... MD STREGA DC STELLA |
Sorry to hear that indeed, but as you said yourself, it could have certainly been worse. Now, enjoy being driven around in a very cool car.
Get healthy soon. H |
From one MiniMaxx to another, good luck! With time and some work, this dark period will pass. I agree with the others; you're gonna need a taser to get the Mrs. to release her grip from Maxx's steering wheel. Just kidding Mrs. MiniMaxxNC.   Here's a possible solution: Since a new Mini is inevitable and if its a financial possibility and if the Mrs. promises and agrees (a lot of ifs), get an MCSA now and enjoy sooner. When your better, you can swap. See! It's easy as 1-2-3. Seriously though, Get well soon:thumbsup:

MCSa?
thanks guys,.. this forum really has some cool people on it.
I was seriously contemplating a MCSa, but I remember when we test drove one, it was only a fraction of fun as the 6 speed. We really have contemplated a 2nd MINI but there are 5 of us in the family (two in car seats) ...so we at least have to wait untill my daughter starts driving, but that's only two years. :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: I must say it has still been fun, even riding shotgun. thanks again for the encouragement. -JJ |
I've heard car seats are easier to get to if you have a convertible

There have been more than a few sad tales on this site, but for some reason yours seemed to really hit home with me. I can't help thinking how badly I would be behaving in your situation.
All the best on a speedy recovery...also from a MiniMax!! https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...39Minimax1.jpg |
Well, just thought I'd check in and see how thing's are going with you. I'm really hoping that you can get in that driver seat soon. I know I can't wait to get home and drive mine!!

thanks for checkin' in. I am actually going to the doctor today to talk about brace options, I am really trying to figure out a way to drive this thing, even if I have to customize it  . |
Nothing too exciting around here for the 4th...that's actually a good thing. I wonder, just exactly what kind of crazy custom job would you have to do to drive that thing with one foot?
