I'm New but I am obsessed With Minis

Hello all, I currently own a 2009 Mini Cooper S 208k Miles Chassis and top end, 90kish Bottom end and am looking to do mainly drivetrain, chassis, and aero upgrades (aside from the spoiler). The car is my daily and I want it to stay that while making it track capable. Car is stock other than JCW Brake upgrade. Granted I'm only 18 so don't have a lot of funds nor experience. I also drive my car kind of hard. Parts I have lined up: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

Welcome! Nice list. I think you have a good R56 to start with. The Painted body color with sport aero kit and rare Gen 1 18" wheels

Welcome to the forum. You'll enjoy your Mini BUT only if you can perform all the modifications you've listed. The labor costs alone for these mods will eat you alive if you have to pay someone else to do them -- something to think about.

Welcome aboard

Save yourself some money on the coil-overs:

https://www.greeneperformance.com/co...custom-revalve

BC Golds revalved to work on the street, & with the hardness adjuster they come with also valved to double-duty on the track. These guys know Minis & supply a well set kit.

You wont need the 6 spot brakes. 4 spot calipers will be fine on the track & fearsome on the road.

I'd say save even more and put Koni reds or yellows on. Most people who think they need coil overs don't.

Fras Jun 21, 2023 07:07 AM

Yeah, definitely something I think about.

Fras Jun 21, 2023 07:08 AM

Good to know and ill definitely look into the BC Golds.

Fras Jun 21, 2023 07:09 AM

You are probably right in saying I don't need coil overs it truly just depends on how much I'm trying to spend tbh. So ill definitely keep these in mind.

Save your money. Car is already track capable to a point.

Track mods can only diminish the car's on road behavior. I'm talking about noise, vibration, harshness, reliability, and increase running costs. Track time requires more maintenance. For every hour on the track figure 10+ hours working on the car before and after.

On the track every time you cross the start/finish line toss a wad of cash out the window. That'll give you an idea of what it costs...

The people who say you dont need coilovers, are people that dont know what properly tuned suspension is like.

Correct spring for your driving, mated to correct valved damping is something everyone prefers.

You don't need coilovers. Lots of boi racers that need a belt throw them at their cars. $1800 is a good chunk of money to sink into other upgrades and preventative maintenance on a car with 200k+ miles on it. If you want a tighter suspension and better handling (and this hasn't been done...) the front and rear suspension bushings and ball joints is a better place to spend money. Add a good set of shocks, and some good tires. And then an alignment.
