New member, retired 63 year-old, just bought my 08 Clubman S a month or so ago. I had an Opel GT and a 280ZX in my younger days, have wanted something sporty ever since. I was warned that Minis are quirky, but so am I, and we are getting used to each other. Love it so far!

I filled out my profile and uploaded some pics. I live in rural SW Missouri, in the Ozarks, so there are lots of twisty roads to play on.

I have been able to figure out a lot of things with a PDF Manual and youtube videos, but I encountered a new problem today, and was hoping for some advice. My turn signals are flashing at about double the normal speed, and the "exterior bulb failure" warning symbol is on. I assumed I just had a bulb burned out, but they are all working, including the side (scuttle?) lights. I searched the manual for a flasher module, but didn't find anything.

Anyone have any suggestions for an old fart who is technologically challenged? Thanks in advance, looking forward to browsing this site.

Welcome! MINIs are very sensitive to battery condition so that is a good place to start.

Welcome to the forum. The Opel GT was one of the cars I test drove in the 80s while learning to drive a manual. I regret not buying it when I had the chance. I would think the Opel was a little more quirky than the MINI.

Sometimes a loose bulb, or corrosion on the base can cause this. You may have to take them all out to find the "one", but changing them all, will be a good idea anyway!

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I have found several mentions that a loose bulb or corroded socket can allow the bulb to still work, while sending a "fail" signal. I think I'll replace all the bulbs and check for corrosion and loose connections. I put about 80 miles on it today, and the signals worked properly about half the time. An iffy connection somewhere makes sense.

I had the Opel in the late 70s. It really wasn't quirky, it was before electronics. Only diagnostic tools I needed were a timing light and a tach and dwell meter. Setting the points was a pain, and the Solex carb was finicky, but it was all pretty basic. These are the only surviving photos:

These were much simpler years. I had a 61 factory fuel injected Corvette. Points, mechanical fuel injection, which was really tough to set. They were both fun in the day though! Today's Mini is better in the fun department! A road legal go-kart! with great steering, handling and power out of a tiny 1.6 engine! I really love my 06 MCS JCW! It is the most fun car I have owned.

I thought I should probably follow up on this, since so many people were helpful. The turn signal problem fixed itself! They started working right after 3-4 days and have been fine ever since. We had a torrential rain the day before the problem started, I'm thinking maybe something got damp?

On another note, I recently found a Johnny Lightning Cooper S on eBay for $6, not an exact match for mine, but the color matches perfectly! Great detail for it's size, cute little thing...
