New owner from South Carolina. ‘04 cooper s

Hi everyone,
I recently joined the mini family by getting a good deal on a 2004 Cooper with 100,000k. I recently replaced various gaskets including the head, intake and exhaust and various seals around the car for preventative maintenance. I bought ARP head studs as a do plan on boosting the car with a tighter pulley and possibly a tune in the future and figured it’d be safer to invest in better head bolts. I’m in the market for an oil pressure and boost gauge (mechanical and preferably matching the tach and speedo orange). I was also wanting some advice on some (relatively) cheap mods. I’m already familiar with “one ball” and redirecting a specific bypass valve to get better supercharger response and reduce “yo-yo”. Any input/thoughts are welcome as I’m new to working on cars and am doing this with my buddy who’s worked on Minis for years. Thank you

Hi and welcome to the NAM family!
Congrats on your R53 buy!
Go to the gen 1 area on the site, to find more information on your car, than about anywhere else.
There is help here for some of the tricky things, that others have already dealt with, so you can get them worked out sooner, than later!
We always like to see members rides, so show us some pics!

Hi,
Welcome. I am an newbie too.
I was thinking about mechanical gauges too. I do not like having to flip though screens to find out information and would rather be able to glance at a gauge. I look forward to seeing what you use and how you install them.

I wanted the mechanical gauges purely for ease of installment because there’d be less wires to run and already have a t valve in place to tap for boost. And here’s a pic of her on some nice low profile enkeis

Welcome! I am also in the South Carolina area! Nice looking car! Good luck with getting everything sorted on the car... May I ask, what seals did you replace as preventative maintenance??

I replaced the crank sensor seal as it was busted and had to replace the whole camshaft sensor because it was leaking and cracked. changed the gasket on the supercharger as well. I plan on replacing the crank shaft seal and oil pan gasket too. They tend to go out with age on these cars i believe but mine were fine for the time being.

Welcome from Atlanta, for sure a 15% pulley will be bang for the buck in the way of mods.

If doing the crank seal go ahead and upgrade to an ATI damper since you will have to remove the stock one anyway. This will also prevent future failure as the crank pulley is a very common failure.

I was checking out the one on your website. If I combined the 2% overdrive with a 15% belt reduction would that equate to a 17% reduction overall? I was looking into a 15% but am only going to be on the street and worry about overheating my supercharger. I would be okay with the power gains of a 17% but will hold off it it risks damage.
