Old mechanic just bought a Mini
Just bought a 2009 Clubman S with a blown clutch.I am always on the look out for cars to fix and flip. Also do maintenance on a 2011 standard 3 door for my wife's sister. After working as a Ford dealer tech for 15 years I know there are always little tips and tricks to learn about different makes of cars.I live in the San Francisco bay area and the shops seem to think these cars are special and charge like its some kind of exotic sports car.My only problem is it seems the engine bay is a little tight to keep the styling correct.

Welcome. I'm new to minis as well as being new here on NAM. I recently did an oil/filter change on my clubman & I came away with the same observation as to how tight the space is in the engine bay and the suspension area when looking under the car.

Hi and welcome to NAM. OldMecanic,
Look into the gen 2 area for a bunch of info on your model!
Now here is the problem:
You get a car to flip, you fix it, then you drive it and then all of a sudden you own three or more! That happened to me! It can happen to you too! Try a gen 1!
Congrats on your Mini buy!

Yes, very tight! My hands are pretty hammered after working on a couple the other day. Not sure if you are aware of the service position, but if not, look it up. The front end does pull out a little bit to give you more room to work. It’s kind of a PITA the first time you do it, but after that, it’s pretty quick and easy, and saves you a lot of cussing, lol.

Welcome.
Yeap, can't just own one... the real trick is learning what needs to be done to make the work fast and easy. it only takes a few minutes to remove the front bumper cover, and with that and possible the removal of the rads, you will find almost unfettered access to the front half of the engine. nothing is hard, just time consuming. ...like when you know that with the correct wrench you can complete the task in three minutes and with a makeshift wrench the same task takes 30 minutes.
