What's your thoughts on this....
6 Attachment(s)
I recently bought a MCS with some clear coat issues on the front of the hood. The respray estimate was $450 and a 7-day lead time. I didn't want to wait nor did I want to throw away the money, so I plasti-dipped it. Let me know what you think, good or bad. I've got some thick skin when it comes to saving half a grand. Please keep the dollar figure in mind when you comment.

You did a nice job, but it looks odd. Sell it as a special bug defender shield.
|
How are you describing what that is?!
|
Well don't stop there...

So you went in half way start all over it looks odd as others have stated here. What i would do is plastdip the entire hood this Time and then plastidip the scoop as well as the grill in Black Plastidip this will take away from the over half done look. You did great job on the plastidip spray.it would look something like this but better of coarse my painting skills are off lol. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...751a70ada9.jpg |
Yea, looks like a matte finish clear bra. Well done.

Nice photoshop, savagetone. I was initially tempted to do the entire hood, but I felt at that point I'd need to do the bumper cover and grille also. Coworkers think it's just a clear bra. I plan to leave it as-is for a while, but might expand on it as the weather warms. I've got so much work to do on the R56, the R53 will be on the back burner for a while. By the way, this little modded R53 is just so much fun! I don't feel any temptation at all to drive my '11 335is with around 450HP as I walk past it every morning. haha

Grip, I think it looks like a 3m clear Bra (with a Matte finish). Kinda neat. :)
|
I would do the whole hood and look into the plastidip glossy top coat. Or maybe just the plastidip glossy top coat ONLY, like a clear bra. That might hide the clear coat issues.
|
I don't think it looks bad at all. But personally I'd just plastidip the whole car :)
|
I liked it better with just the front half of the hood done, it looked like a bra.
|
I would leave it with the matte finish clear bra unless you want to go old school early MINI days.

I like look of the original half matte hood. As far as a budget repair, that is very good looking in my book.

Looks like a red car bra. Not complicated looking... nice and clean. Good job and hides the clear coat problem. Win-win.:thumbsup:
