Doing my homework on Minis - mind helping me out?

I am a finance manager for Honda. If the warranty they present to you does not cost more than $3000 for an extra three or four years, I would go ahead providing the coverage aligns with what the factory MINI warranty will grant you. Just make sure you're aware of the deductible levels, etc. The warranties are generally quoted at a $1500 markup on first pitch. There will be some room to negotiate, but just don't be a douche about it
They will be getting a kickback from the bank they send your financing to as well, so there are a few dollars that they are trying to make back.
Best of luck! Sounds like a great car.

+1 on the extended 75K warranty. I got that on a used 23K mile R52, never used all the premium I paid for it but there were a couple trips to the shop that would have played hob with our budget that month and was glad to have the coverage. If you keep it beyond 75K just throw a hunnert bucks every month in a sock you keep under the dog's food bowl (safest place in the house) and self insure.

Thanks everyone!
Minis are pretty awesome :p
No photos yet...soon, I promise.
So here's where I am at and how everything went down.
Dealer wasn't going to budge of price, period. I ended up paying the sticker price of $15,998 (mind you it was at $17,9XX last week) and I still feel pretty good about it. It's impossible to find a better deal in the San Francisco area. I put a good chunk down and financed the rest a 2% interest - not bad for a used car, right?
Car has been a blast to drive so far. Love the Xenons - I'm brand nre to this kind of technology and the Harmon Kardon sound systems kills. Such a nice feeling hearing the turbo!
My plan is to 'break it in' some more this week and note every potential 'issue' I find. After that, it's going to a MINI specialist for a thorough look through and then off to the dealership to take advantage of that lovely factory warranty.
Potential issues so far:
- If I have my window down and I'm driving next to a wall where I can hear the noise reflect back, it sounds like the brakes are rubbing something or like a rock being stuck in the caliper. Window up and I hear nothing. Sounds perfect. Maybe this is in my head? Sound comes from passenger side.
- I seem to get subtle back fire if I softly rev. Is this normal? Doesn't seem to happen much and I think it's only happened while in sport mode? Does that make sense?
- Passenger side visor mirror cover fell off - would factory warranty cover this?
- Computer shows I'm only getting 18.7mpg? I'm resetting it to see if maybe previous driving habits were factored in.
- At idle, the engine sometimes has a very, very subtle vibration - again this could be in my head.
Questions I have for ya:
- How do I get the ambient colors to auto change again :p
- Manual said the Mini can store song information from a USB drive? Does this mean I can store actually MP3s on the Mini's memory and remove the USB drive?
- I read about Sport Mode, but still, what is this? Does it even make a difference?

Factory pads have a tendacy to be loud. Get it checked out just in case.

Pops n gurgles with sport button for the win! Perfectly fine. I run mine 90% with it on.
- Passenger side visor mirror cover fell off - would factory warranty cover this?
Warranty should cover it.
- Computer shows I'm only getting 18.7mpg? I'm resetting it to see if maybe previous driving habits were factored in.
Should easily hit 27-30mpg city.
- At idle, the engine sometimes has a very, very subtle vibration - again this could be in my head.
Characteristic of a MINI. Thank direct fuel injection. Wouldn't hurt to have a second opinion.
Questions I have for ya:
- How do I get the ambient colors to auto change again :p
I think it's holding the button towards the boot (rear) for a few seconds or the other way around.
- Manual said the Mini can store song information from a USB drive? Does this mean I can store actually MP3s on the Mini's memory and remove the USB drive?
Just from the USB drive.
- I read about Sport Mode, but still, what is this? Does it even make a difference?

Here is what I have learned from these forums so far, I'm still a newbie to R56, I had an R53 before
- If I have my window down and I'm driving next to a wall where I can hear the noise reflect back, it sounds like the brakes are rubbing something or like a rock being stuck in the caliper. Window up and I hear nothing. Sounds perfect. Maybe this is in my head? Sound comes from passenger side.
I do not know about this one, however you might still have some maintenance warranty left which covers brakes, stop by the dealer, they will put your key in their fancy machine to tell you what you have :-)
- I seem to get subtle back fire if I softly rev. Is this normal? Doesn't seem to happen much and I think it's only happens while in sport mode? Does that make sense?
This is what Sport Mode does, adds pops and gurgles to make it sound 'sporty'
- Passenger side visor mirror cover fell off - would factory warranty cover this?
It should
- Computer shows I'm only getting 18.7mpg? I'm resetting it to see if maybe previous driving habits were factored in.
You can never trust the on board. Calculate yourself by filling the tank, resetting the odometer, drive until empty, fill up and divide the miles & the gallons filled
- How do I get the ambient colors to auto change again :p
Put the car in accessory mode (push start without pressing brake or clutch)>push the light switch back and hold. It should flash or chime saying its in strobe. Pull towards you to undo
- Manual said the Mini can store song information from a USB drive? Does this mean I can store actually MP3s on the Mini's memory and remove the USB drive?
I don't have a factory radio, so I can't answer this.
- I read about Sport Mode, but still, what is this? Does it even make a difference?
Tightens the steering, exhaust pops and gurggles, if automatic it changes the shifting points

+1 on OBC trustworthiness. But, one tank full won't tell you much. You need several. That one tank could have been spent sitting at stop lights or driving into a 30 MPH wind. It takes several to BEGIN to get a true read. DO NOT run your tank empty. Individual's driving styles have as much to do with MPG variations as traffic and etc. This subject as been kicked around for along time. The way to track it on paper is to reset your trip mileage when you fill the tank then every time you refill, mark down the miles (from the trip counter) on the sales slip and stash it away 'till you've got a few months worth, then do the math.
I drive the same route, 5 days a week yet each fill up for me is a little different. One tank was 29/gal the next was 31/gal the next was 28/gal. I average them out and tell people I get 29/mpg with everyday city & hwy driving.
