New to the MINIverse (FL)

Hi all! After many years of watching from the sidelines looks like I am about to finally get a MINI. Odd timing since we're expecting our first child but hey, that's what the wife's SUV is for

I think.

Still debating much between a Cooper and a Countryman. I'd ask for suggestions but I'm sure it comes down to preference.

Two questions...

I understand we're at the cut-off point for 2011's and 2012's...anyone know what date orders for 2012s start? Any significant changes?

Any clubs near Orlando that meet up?

Glad to find you guys.
Chris

We have the Clubman and the Cabrio. The clubby would fit perfect for the car seat and the club door. Go to the dealer, try putting something like a baby in the back seat of the hardtop and then the Clubman or Countryman. Again the MA will know the cut off date. If you order an 11 negotiate a deal for a car down a model year.
My $.02 worth.

It's a very personal decision based on your needs for space, style, etc. Definitely go to the dealership and figure out how much space you need and if a MINI would even be suitable. Test drive them all because the Countryman is MINI-ish, but there is a definite difference driving due to the increased weight and ride height.

My preference is for a sporty small car, and I have no need to compromise on space so long as I have a back seat (for the doggie!).

You may find the Cooper too small with a baby seat in the back and the requisite stroller taking up the entire trunk leaving you little space left over. But if this is a second car, the space compromise may be a non issue.

Congratulations. I'm in the same situation (except my wife doesn't have an SUV). I ordered an MCS because this is the car I've been waiting for. walk0080 makes some valid points about space but I think it can still work. I went with my wife to Babies 'R' Us and was already pointing out the strollers and 'pack and plays' that fold down the most to make up for the lack of space .

True - there are some very cool and fancy new stroller setups that can fold up quite small. And for road trips, there is always a roof box! I feel the same way as TrueEddie, a JCW Cooper is the car I want - If I happen to have a child, I know I can manage.

There are also some blogs about parenting and staying light weight - not sure why, but it seems like modern parents feel they need to be equipped for all possibilities while out and about. i.e. they load up on everything.
