KEY REMOTE of my MINI S
If you have an '05 or '06, the key charges while in the ignition. Prior years have a replaceable battery. For future reference, please let us know the year and model of your MINI when asking a question as they may vary by year/model. I believe the R56 generation also is a rechargeable battery except if you have comfort access.
Please put your details in your signature..
If you have 2nd generation without Comfort Access then the remote is charged by placing in the ignition slot. Make sure you charge your other remote at least once or twice a year if there is not a 2nd driver using it.
If you have the Comfort Access option then the battery is not rechargeable. You must replace the battery when low by prying the back cover off of the remote. I have gone over a year so far on original battery and still going strong.

what do you mean "on"?
Like 2nd click ON? or ignition.
of ignition on, how come its still the same?
My friend (who i bought the MINI from) said it used to work.
Do i have to let it sit for a while or something?
or drive ALOT? lol...
thanks!

It's an option on 2nd generation where the doors can be opened and the engine started while the remote remains in your pocket or purse. If you have CA there is a small black button on the door handles for locking / unlocking.
The remotes for the 2 systems look very much the same with the same buttons on each.
Note: If you did not get an owners manual with your MINI then you can download one from here:

Register using your VIN number.
Look in the Your MINI section.
