I'm new and need advice!

I just took my 2004 Cooper into the shop today to replace the belt tensioner and multi rib belt, but everytime I accelerate, the engine still makes this annoying buzzing/whirling noise and gradually increases as the rmp's go up. (Which is why I took the car in.) What is this?!?!

Honestly it does sound like the tensionor is the problem. But if that has been replaced and was done right then could be a idler pulley or possibly even the water pump.... Honestly would have to listen and see it to make a good diagnosis of it. But those are all possibilities.

Welcome! I'm new too!

If it's still doing the same thing, take it back and tell them. If they are an honest shop they should step up and fix it.

Thank you for all the advice. I've researched this shop to be quite reputable, however, I feel I'm getting the run around. I even had one of the mechanics take a ride with me before I left the shop and was told the noise was 'normal'. Looks like i'll be giving them a call first thing in the morning.

Good luck! Hope they take care of you.

Hi I just noticed you have Falken Azenis RT - 615 tires on your MINI and was wondering how you like them.
Such as road noise, comfort ride, cornering, braking and driving in rain.

Thanks jdsmin

Its called a supercharger:an air compressor used for forced infuction of an internal combustion engine.

No sorry i was just kidding, i know you wouldnt mistake a noise like that with a supercharger, right? :sly:

And congrats on the mini! Trust me, once this little problem is worked out you will fall in love, and luckily you found this forum, it comes in great handy but mostly, when you become obsessed with the mini, this is a place you will feel at home talking mini

EDIT, SORRY DIDNT SEE YOU HAVE A JUSTACOOPER=NON S
