New car, flat tire
New car, flat tire
Hey,
Week 33er here. Yesterday, my wife and I picked up our new chili red MC. Very excited. Since my wife had to be coaxed a little into this purchase, I let her take the maiden voyage home while I drove our other car. About a mile from the dealer, my wife calls and says that the low tire warning light was on. We immediately pulled over and called the dealer. At this time, it wasn't obvious what tire was affected. The dealer told us that the sensor program probably needed to be re-calibrated and walked us through the steps to reset it. Back on the road, in about another mile the light comes on again.
I had a commitment in a couple of hours so we decided to get home and hope that the tire is just under inflated. We drove through stupid Friday afternoon Chicago traffic and I lost sight of her. Finally got home to find the tire is flat.
I called the dealer; she's nice and told us that I could have the tire fixed at a local shop and they'd reimburse us.
Firestone just called to tell me that the sidewall of the tire is damaged and they need to order a new tire.
This may be a game changer with the dealer. I'll update this if people are interested.
Bottom line for us: it won't be until next Tuesday or Wednesday until we can drive our new guy.
Well, at least I can play around with the ipod/bluetooth, hifi settings and generally get to know my car while he sits in our garage.

That is truly a bummer....
I'd have that MINI at the dealer first thing Monday morning, insisting that THEY give you the new tire. NO reason for you to fork out ANY money on a brand new car. Put it right back in the dealers lap....my 2 cents...
However, Congrats on your MINI. Once the tire is fixed, Happy Motoring..

Update:
My MA just called and said that they'll reimburse the full amount for the new tire.
The sun is shining - perfect day today. My MINI sits in a dark garage.
Oh well, a couple more days of waiting won't kill me, right?

Sorry HornBlowR, that is not the first week you wanted to spend with your car I'm sure! Hopefully everything will go well (and quickly!) and you will have mastered all the car settings for full functioned motoring when you get the new tire.
Ouch! I wonder what happened to your tire? I'm sorry that happened to you -- I feel a little relieved every time I finish a drive without any warning lights coming on.
I'm on day 2, myself. If you see a dark silver S with black sport stripes, give me a wave!
Good luck with your new tire!

Looks like it was a puncture (right outside the dealership
) and the sidewall got trashed when the tire went completely flat. Glad the MA was cool about the replacement. I was worried that they'd tell me "no dice" since we didn't return to the dealership when the low tire warning came up again. So this is all working out as best as can be expected.
