New here and talking to dealerships..

I would like to ask what the general consensous is on the price of a 08 MCS hardtop, pepper white, Aero kit, prem pkg, sport pkg, conv pkg, LSD, black leather for 32,500... What do you think - good deal or could I get better???

Any help and/or suggestions you want to throw my way - I'm ALL ears....

Go and build the car that you saw on the MINI USA website. The features you mention on this car do not add up to the price that you're suggesting from what I remember of the package pricing. So I feel that there have to have been more features on this car to warrant it getting to that price, but my memory isn't perfect. Build it on the MINI website. If that price is within 500$ of MSRP, you're not getting ripped off. If not, pass on it and go to another dealer.

If the car is at MSRP, it's unlikely that you will get a lot of wiggle room on this price. MINIs move off lots quickly compared to other cars and dealers can afford to wait for the next buyer to come along. They don't necessarily need to sell *you* the car. Someone will come along and buy it within the next few days. So it will be up to you to take it, or leave it at that price.

Addendum: I could be totally wrong on this, I'm new to MINIs myself. Where I live, I don't have the luxury of being able to pick and choose from several different MINI dealers. If you do, I'd advise shopping around.

Well your right - it isn't the same price as on MINIUSA - and I asked about that and I was told that it has a dealer mark up... Do ALL the dealers do this?

I live in the central coast, CA and the closest dealers are down by LA, I sent out another e-mail to a different dealer to see what they say.

I just don't like being "had" know what I mean??

Thanks for the input.

I'd try getting out of CA-- there are threads about those that will sell at MSRP. Try Vegas or Scottsdale-- I got mine at a smidge under MSRP at Scottsdale and would be more than happy to give you someone's name to work with. Personally, I think charging a mark up is just silly, but several dealers do.

Try posting in one of the CA club areas. I know there are one or two dealers in the state that say they don't mark-up. Best of luck.

Here is a link to a SoCal club: http://www.scmm.org/

I ordered mine from South Bay BMW. It is probably one of the farthest from you, but they do not mark up. If you want to negotiate you can probably get it for a little less or get extras thrown in.
