Now I'll get some respect

I almost never get waves from my local club members. Of course I'm usually driving the Dodge Intrepid. So we just placed an order for a new 2008 MCS. We don't know his name yet, but here's the specifics:

BRG/W
Packages: Convenience, Premium, Cold Weather
Auto, 16" bridge spoke (I know, they're not fun but they're better than the other factory choices in 16"), Sport Suspension, DSC, Xenons
Anthracite headliner, checkered cloth, alarm, checkered interior finish, HD radio, Sirius.
Checkered mirror caps (inside & out), badge holder, black mats.
Checkered door handles to be installed at the first mod date.

Delivery mid June

Finally I'll get a few waves.

Ken

To be honest, that's one of the major reasons for the choice. The others are that it's faster. And you get this cool 'is that black or green or what' thing goin on.

If you want the checkered door handles, you might want to think about getting them tacked on before the car hits production. From what I've read, it's a *very* hard modification to put them on after the fact, as it requires completely removing the window.

Welcome to NAM, Ken and congrats on the order! Specs look great!

According to the info I've gotten they are not available installed by the factory. They are only installed by the dealer. The dealer charges 5.5 hours of labor to install them. Our local club has developed a nice relationship with the Dallas dealer and we have had a couple of Mod days at the dealer. The dealer helps out by having knowledgeable advisors there to help out. So that's when I'll install them (or at least the first one).

I've also spoken with one of our MINI mechanics and he's familiar with my skill level as he's given me guidance on mods to our current MINI. He anticipates it will take about 4 hours to do one door with him providing some tutalage along the way.

Ah, well, don't mind me! You've got everything figured out. Good job on your research! :) I love the checkered look, and I'm sure you're going to have one fine looking car.

Actually if someone knows that you can get the factory to install them, let me know. I'd rather the factory do it 'cause I'd think it'd be near zero additional labor. But dealer install drives the price up to over $600. The $166 in the configurator is just the parts.

Oh yeah, and we wave more!

I even wave when I'm driving the Sub, I wonder if they understand?

NashvilleMiniStan Apr 19, 2008 07:41 AM

You will love your MINI. Here is a wave from Nashville, TN

BTrimble Apr 19, 2008 01:52 PM

Great options and how cool will the checkered motif be? Way cool! BRG is classy and classic (sorta classic, anyway, since it's a metallic green, but I suppose that's a different discussion)! Please make sure you post pics when yours arrives. I'd love to see how yours turns out.
-Btrimble (anxiously awaiting her BRG/B MCS, which is still sailing towards the colonies on Tagus)

Gromit801 Apr 19, 2008 01:59 PM

Now if only Mini's BRG was a REAL BRG. It's why a lot of us call it Bavarian Racing Green.

KTrout Apr 19, 2008 02:25 PM

Yes!! BRG is the best, with BRG/W being the obvious best color combo ;-). I'm expecting mine to be delivered within the next couple of weeks.

Congrats!!

caulyne Apr 19, 2008 03:12 PM

I was going to do the BRG/check thing myself, but haven't yet. Congrats!!

I've now got a Production Number and from that I found a VIN in the owners lounge. How often should I bug MINIUSA to get my production date moved up to tomorrow?

Oooh, every few hours or so.

mysticturner Apr 22, 2008 10:23 AM

I've been calling and all I get is a busy signal. Will you people give me a chance to get in?

What hours are they there?

nikoli Apr 22, 2008 01:46 PM

Congratulations on the new baby. I ordered my BRG the day after. Is it just me or as soon as you order other MINIs show up everywhere you look?

mysticturner Apr 22, 2008 02:09 PM

They're getting more common every day here in north Texas. I wave at them all but they all just think "who's the nut in the crappy Intrepid?".

But I just got thru to ASK-MINI. It helps if you program your phone with the right phone #. Our baby has already begun production. They say it will be done by 4/28. WaaaHoooo! The labor has begun!  Proud Papa!

I need to call my MA. He'd better have made the last minute changes right....

agranger Apr 22, 2008 02:16 PM

Yep... the ASK MINI number works better when you get the right number! :D

The next time you talk to ASK MINI, request them to read the entire spec to you as it is in the system. I found out too late that someone mis-entered the roof color on my '06 order... It was too late to change it, so the dealership had to sell that one and re-order a new car to my spec.

Mystic knows the process... he isn't spillin' it, but he's already got one MINI in the family. It's just time for him to have a toy of his own! :D
