It's Official

My wife has finally agreed to let me get a MINI, and it really didn't cost me that much. Just a nice bottle of wine. If I had known it was that easy, I would have had one years ago.

So now I'm on the hunt for the perfect one. Woo hoo!!!

This site is my new best friend.

You took the wifey out and got her loaded, huh?

Congrats!!!

Mike621 Aug 4, 2007 11:43 AM

Congratulations.

Advice,

Get one in manual, I love the way it feels versus the auto. Also, most of my friends never will ask to drive it because many dont know how to drive a clutch .

Kudos to you ! For most men, alcohol only gets us into trouble.

Not you though. You've figured out a way to make it work FOR you. :sly:

Can you say EASY! Congratulations on getting and being a to be MINI owner.

I was driving the daughters 98 Honda Accord, since I gave the 'daughter' my 04 Jeep. I said to my wife, what should I get for myself, she suggested a MINI, so I did. Are we not some lucky guys. :)

Of course, we have been doing some updates around the house, so beware.

Let us know what you get and when your going to get it.

Welcome to NAM.

I'm excited. I know my wife will enjoy the MINI when she gets behind the wheel (if it takes a bottle of wine to get her behind the wheel, we'll all be in trouble). She compares it to a dare I say Volkswagen Beetle because of the headlights. I'll get her to come around. Before you know it, she'll be on this site posting threads.

As far as what I am looking for, I was thinking an '05 or newer MCS in DS. I would prefer one that has already been slightly modded as my wife does not go for the custom thing. So what she doesn't know, won't hurt her.:)

Not much for sale here in Atlanta so I'm browsing through the Marketplace postings on this site as I feel a little more comfortable buying long distance through NAM than eBay or Autotrader.

I'll let you know what (or whose) I get.

MPIIIMan Aug 4, 2007 01:19 PM

Heck yes.
Congrats!

I convinced mine by giving up my starbucks habit ($200 a month) and the amount I'm saving on gas ($200) a month.

There the car is paid for!

I told my wife I'd sell my BMW motorcycle only if I could get a MINI for myself (she had one at the time and wouldn't let me drive it). She agreed :)

Congrats and welcome to the family!! Wow, I wish my other half had been that easy to convince....it took about two months to get her to come around. And she's still not too happy about it.

Really ? You have let her drive it, right ?

This might be a first. Say... can we use her for scientific experiments ? Something's not right with her.

Well I had been working on it for about 3 years, just trying to wear her down. That never worked and really only got me in trouble. Then the other day, we had a nice dinner and a nice bottle of wine and she said "You know, I really miss driving a manual transmission". That was my in. What a better car to have a manual tranny.

I do have to let her drive it, which too me is a small price to pay. The only issue is she likes to drive fast so once she gets behind the wheel, I may not get it back.

My only problem now is finding the right one. I don't want to rush and buy one, but I don't want my window of opportunity to pass me by.

Still looking....whew. This has been tough. I have found several and my wife has put the hammer down. Whether it is the price or the color. She says no. I think I see what is going on here.

I'm going to end up with an older model that has high miles on it to satisfy my wife on the color and price. Oh well, I guess it's still better than my Nissan.
Then once she drives it, she'll be hooked and I can upgrade later.

For the record...I have tried more expensive bottles of wine, vodka and steak. Hasn't worked. Again, I see what is going on here....

Wish me luck.

sweet! congrats

Save yourself a lot of trouble. Buy her a diamond.

By the time you're done with the steak dinners, wining and dining, buying an older, less expensive MINI and then selling it to get a newer, upgraded one, you will have wrapped enough money into Operation Getamini that you will wish you had just bought the diamond in the first place.

congrats! good luck on the hunt!

Welcome to NAM!! Congrats and I hope you find exactly what you want.
Like the man said,"Candy is nice, but liquor is quicker"!!

So true. How does it go? Like "Diamonds and MINIs are forever" or something like that.

But out of all of this and some advice I have received from the local MINI club, my wife has agreed to let me put mods on the MINI, so this is huge. I can now broaden my search.

I hope that I will be posting pictures of my MINI on here soon. Shortly after I post the pictures of my wife's diamond on the DeBeers forum.
